Get involved in crucial debates for researchers in Europe

Following the ‘No-Cuts-On-Research.EU’ campaign, the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE) is inviting researchers to get involved in science advocacy, and in particular: the campaign for a better EU Scientific Visa, the use of personal data in research, good practice examples in research assessment, the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) 2014 and the Euroscientist magazine.
Share your experience of work visas and residence permits in Europe. Non-EU researchers wishing to work in Europe must obtain an EU scientific Visa. The current procedure is due to be amended by the European Parliament and the EU Member States. This was the starting point for ISE’s campaign, to be launched this autumn, to communicate researchers’ expectations to stakeholders. Start a debate in your country about the EU directive on the protection of data. The European Commission has proposed amending the current legislative framework on the protection of data, and the European Parliament has proposed the following amendments. In response, the Wellcome Trust has published its position, speaking in the name of non-commercial research organisations and academics. Why not use the paper to get the debate going in your country? Respond to a call for good practice. The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) initiated by the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) recognises the need to improve the ways in which the outputs of scientific research are evaluated. ESOF 2014 – Comment on the results of the No-Cuts-on-Research.EU. As you may know, ESOF 2014 will take place in Copenhagen from 21 to 26 June. Participants are invited to attend a session on 24 June on the outcomes of the No-Cuts-on-Research.EU campaign.
