Results of the MCAA Communication Working Group (CWG) video competition

by Aurelia Chaise

Dear Alumni, we are pleased to announce the results of the MCAA CWG video competition. Check out the two winning videos!

And the winner is…

Congratulations to the producer of the GNSS Meteorology: Explainedvideo, which received the largest number of votes from Alumni and the Jury combined!

This very educational video explains in an easy-to-understand manner how to measure atmospheric water vapour using a global navigation satellite system (GNSS).

Water vapour is important in helping to predict the weather. Some 85% of the vapour comes from oceans and 15% from land. With the development of GNSS, atmospheric water vapour can be measured in a more precise way, thus leading to a more accurate weather forecast.

The second prize

The second prize goes to the producer of “Getting Students Engaged in Science!”.

The Alumnus Boaz Ben-David introduces the cognitive psychology domains of signal detection theory, hearing test methods and visual illusions. The video is a lot of fun as the topics are explained with a lot of humour!

How were the videos assessed?

Seven videos were submitted and were assessed by:

  • the MCAA members;
  • the Communication Working Group video competition assessors team chaired by Antonia Hadjimichael.

Simplicity and a pedagogical approach were outlined from the start as important criteria, and this into account during judging.

Congratulations to the winners of this competition and thank you to everyone who participated!
