Bridging Science and Business Workshop

 Dear MCAA Members,

The BSB working group cordially invites you to a two-day training and networking event in Gdańsk. We will offer you the opportunity to join workshops on patenting, starting spin-offs and start ups, grant application, innovative thinking, and design. Also, you will hear the talks from distinguished professionals, academics, and consultants on the commercialization of their research, patenting of ideas and their experience with research in business and academia. Update: The extended deadline for the BSB grant applications is 04.09.2017.

This event is organized back-to-back with the 2nd Polish Chapter Meeting in the beautiful port city of Gdansk. So you have the exciting opportunity to attend both meetings, which are open and free for all MCAA members.

Speakers’ Profiles:

 

Adam Celiz: Adam is the winner of the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” category of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions 2017. In 2014, Adam was awarded a Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship to build his own research program at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. His current research efforts are focused on developing materials for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering applications particularly in Regenerative Dentistry.

 

Ahmet Oral: Ahmet holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the Bilkent University. He is the founder of NanoMagnetics-USA LLC, NanoSis, and NanoMagnetics Instruments Ltd.. Presently, Ahmed is a professor at the Middle East Technical University.

 

Daria Nikulina: Daria specializes in the design for the print and the digital production, branding, and a web & Mobile UI(UX) design. She holds a degree in Arts, Graphic, and Industrial Design from the Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences. She is passionate about forming a culture that suits the needs of a company/startup and which is based on equality, free thinking and creativity. She designs processes for a better communication and eliminates those standing in the way of innovation and growth. Daria has experience in consulting and brand design with businesses as Havuu, Arctic15/ArcticStartup, Startup Passion and also TU Delft.

 

Darren Smyth: Darren has more than a decade of experience in private practice. He has considerable experience in handling difficult cases, contentious matters, and complex advisory work. Darren has particular experience of opposition and appeal hearings at the EPO, and has advised in relation to patent litigation in the UK and other European countries. Ha also has recognised expertise in the field of registered designs. Darren is on the editorial board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice, to which he also frequently contributes. He blogged for The IPKat from 2012 to 2017 and also maintains a personal blog as IP Alchemist.

 

Diana Prata: Diana won the 3rd prize for the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” category of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions 2017 and the “Caixa Capital 2017 Investment Award”. As a Marie Curie fellow, she returned to Portugal from the UK to: lead a Human Neuroscience research unit at the iMM Lisboa, be a Lecturer at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL), Portugal, a Visiting Lecturer at Institute of Psychiatry of King’s College London, and to co-found as Chief-Scientific-Officer the startup Neuropsycad http://www.neuropsycad.com/. Her startup develops a service to help clinicians diagnose neuropsychiatric illnesses early, using artificial intelligence techniques applied to brain imaging data.

 

Inna Dimova: Inna is a freelancing consultant and specializes in the solutions related to questions on Intellectual Property protection (patents, trademarks, designs, copyright, know-how, domain names). She assesses and drafts IP related agreements such as license agreements, joint ownership and consortium agreements. She provides business oriented advice and training to SMEs, large scale companies and research institutions. Inna gained experience as a lawyer, IP consultant and IPR legal advisor throughout the EU.

 

Julien Sudre: Julien is the founder and principal manager of Innotrope. He is consultant in strategic marketing and funding for innovative firms. His background is in biology, entrepreneurship and new product development. He holds a MSc in Food Science from the University of Tours and a Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the University of Luxembourg. Julien has held positions in R&D at Nestlé and Kraft Foods before turning to consulting at Intelligentsia Consultants and Innotrope.

 

Mugdha Joshi: Mugdha joined the IP & Licensing Group of King’s College London in January 2014 from University of Manchester Intellectual Property Ltd (UMIP) where she was a Commercialisation Executive. At UMIP, Mugdha was responsible for the assessment, protection, management and transaction of IP for commercialisation. She was also responsible for pitching for venture capital funding and applying to other proof of concept funding opportunities. Prior to this Mugdha has had related technology transfer positions at The University of Sheffield and The University of Birmingham. Mugdha obtained her PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from The University of Birmingham.

 

Oscar Charro: Oscar obtained his degree in chemical engineering at the University of Salamanca. Since then he has become an expert in renewable energy technologies, specially in Solar Energy. For years he was employed in Spain as Manufacturing Manager of solar silicon cells, having being deeply involved at the time in the R&D of silicon manufacturing technologies and characterization methods for semiconductors. Since he moved to Poland in 2012, Oscar has been acting as advisor for Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO) in Solar Energy matters in Poland and focusing in his activities as solar PV developer and entrepreneur at KRD Global Group Sp. z o.o., having launched several start-ups mainly related with innovative solar technologies and solar products (dpSun Ltd. in UK, decibelPV in Poland) so as internationalization/business intelligence (LandPoland) and laboratory testing/certification/IoT (CertiTak) among others. Currently he is
strongly dedicated to R&D funding programs and capital rising strategies for start-ups so as to identification of incipient scientific/technological projects or simply concept ideas that could be funded.
