Are two associations useful?

2 min read Nov 11, 2013
Hi all,
other than MCAA there is another association of MC: the MCFA.
I have tried to participate and contribute to the MCFA without any success (technical and/or communication issues or ... I do not know), but this is not the problem. I would like to focus on the suitability of having 2 different associations of MC fellows. I actually do not know what is the difference between the 2 groups. MCAA was just created and (as I understand) we should give it the right direction. Regarding MCFA I did not get too many information despite a few attempts.
I personally think that it is useless losing energy, power, knowledge and especially communication, creating different groups with (probably) the same objectives. With this post I do not want to say that one association is better than the other one since I do not know them, but I just would like to raise the discussion.
I really believe that such kind of association, in case it is well managed, could be an efficient and powerful tool for connecting the research to the policy makers and we should take advantage from this chance.

Riccardo has raised an important issue which will be addressed during the Annual General Assembly. However, at present, there are not two associations as the MCAA is yet to have any legal format, it is an initiative of the Commission at this stage to gain momentum in the wider issue for supporting ALL Marie Curie Alumni. It will aquire legal status/existence after the aforementioned 1st GA during which the Articles of Association of the MCAA will be adopted and elections will take place .The Commission has at all times discussed the process, content and priorities with the MCFA and are very aware of its long history and good work done to date. The MCFA will be present at the 1st AGA on the 23rd of Nov. 2013 and they have asked for an opportunity to speak to express their support for the activity and their willingness to join the MCAA. Once the MCAA has adopted legal statutes and come into existence, the MCFA have expressed their interest in recommending to their members that they merge into one body. We cannot speak for them of course but all the signs are positive and we hope we can garner the enthusiasm of old and new into a real movement going forward.

Hi Riccardo,

I'm sorry to read that you didn't manage to get involved in the MCFA.

I joined the MCFA relatively recently (a bit less than a year ago).
Over the past months, I was personally contacted by a number of Alumni who wanted to get involved in the activities of the sub-groups I coordinate. I liaised with them, forwarded their interest to the Board, and even worked with some of them on preparing documents for the MCFA. I communicated with them via emails and Skype meetings.

It's a pity that it didn't work out for you. However, I'd like to stress that they are people working very hard in the MCFA to get more Alumni involved, increase networking, and get things done.

I look forward to participating in the MCAA GA and to creating a positive movement going forward.

Hi Axelle,
I think you have some technical problem on the website.
Other than that, I have tried to contact someone of the Board a few times but I have recieved just the first generic reply, than I have written on FB Group but nobody replied.
Some communication issue :-) but it does not mind, don't worry! I guess we will get some time at the MCAA GA to talkabout everything.

I was in the same position of Riccardo. I got registered in MCFA but even worst. I got registered and never got a single email from them. I still can not access although I asked by email several times.

Indeed, is a very important issue to discuss in the GA. I am looking forward to assist.

all my best
