5th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Sciences, 19-23 August 2014 – Invitation to Apply

Each year the Commission has the opportunity of proposing a limited number of applicants to the Lindau Selection Board for the annual Nobel Laureates meeting (see http://www.lindau-nobel.org/Upcoming_Lindau_Meetings.AxCMS for more details).

If you are or have been a Marie Curie with a primary emphasis in the Economics area, we would like to advise you of the possibilities.

In 2014 the 5th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Sciences will take place on 19-23 August. This is a one week long opportunity to meet up to 30 Nobel Laureates in your field of research. It is a unique opportunity for you to meet the best in your field. You will have to fund your travel and the cost of the meeting through your current fellowship, or via support from your own resources or your institution. The estimated cost of ca. 2,500 EUR covers all activities for a whole week, including accommodation, food and local fees (i.e. conference fees). Please note that no further funding is available to individual applicants from the Commission. If you are selected to participate the activity may count towards the dissemination and outreach activities of your fellowship/project.

The Review Panel of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings then selects academic candidates for participation based on the following criteria:

 – A student (graduate or post-doc) candidate should be under 30 years of age, belong to the top of his/her class, and have strong recommendations from his/her academic advisor.

– A candidate should have a promising research agenda. Post-docs should have produced outstanding research papers on relevant subjects.

– A candidate should show a pronounced interest in the international dialogue within the academic community.

– A candidate should demonstrate fluency in the English language.

– Finally, the candidate should be motivated and willing to prepare himself/herself solidly for the Lindau dialogue.

At the time of our initial invitation, we highlighted the actual costs of the meeting. We are now delighted to be able to update you on a decision taken by the Lindau Foundation.

Their decision means that for this event, the Marie Curie Fellows nominated by the European Commission will get a reduced rate of € 1,250,-- per participant (instead of the €2,500 initially anticipated).

We hope this will encourage you to apply, and with this news in mind, we would also propose to extend the deadline for applications to 14:00 CET on the 19th December 2013.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us via the email indicated above as soon as possible.
