Dear (Mauricio Manfrini, Claudia Simão, Francesco Grassi and Marco Masia)

I like your idea of starting the working group on this topic. I beleive that with current academic funding situaions and uncertainities in academic world, its very important to have a mutual beneficial collaboration between industry and academia for sharing of resources, IPR and trainings and brining the potential research outcome commericalized through in-licensing or out-licensing. We can also ask companies to provide short term trainings to our fellows in a win-win situation. company will get pool of highly talented people and fellows get real -world industry experience. There are many more ideas like doing a buisness plan competition for PhD and post docs, a joint-symposium or other ways, we can discuss it in more details when you ll have the group.

Kindly include me in your group. My email address is aggarwal.shikhar@gmail.com

Thanks, SA

I also agree. Sometimes the academia does not have the energy to create new business and/or it has to respect rules limiting its capabilities. Industry can overpass some limits, support academia in several processes and can provide the support to make a business out of the research. As Shikhar already wrote, a collaboration between the two would just be beneficial. The research, when possible, should become a business creating jobs and moving the economy, but this is often a bottle neck.

Hi guys! Well Done!

It is the working group MCAA misses till now, and one of the most important I think!

I really would like to be part of that and starting to build the network between us (the research) and the industry. I am in the idea, and ready to work on that. My contact is:

a.viti1@yahoo.com

For writing the proposal, if you agree we can either have a skype session all together to address the different questions or just collect our proposals and assembly/organize them in the final one.

Keep in touch,

Andrea Viti

Hi Mauricio,

Good to hear that you have initiated it! I am thinking for the same to start up. I sent you the message to join this group on your gmail address.

I think, due to the drop down in the scientific budget, the academic partners should start collaborating with Industry. Moreover, Basic research to translational needs commercialized technology for the economic growth in the health care sectors.

I am ready to support the group with my ideas and Please Include me in the group.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your input here or by email.  I'm collecting all of them and sending to Claudia Simão.She will prepare the first draft of the proposal.

Given the short timeline we have here it will be difficult to interact before the deadline but I will do my best to share with you the proposal before submission.

After the submission and if the proposal is accepted, we can set confcall with all of you.

Keep those ideas coming!

Best regards,

Mauricio

Hi Mauricio,

Such a nice idea to organize this WG!

I believe that it is an excellent idea to bring science and business together, as in most countries there is a big gap. The most important issue is that on both sides, they cannot come in contact as they don't know the people and their expertize or they hesitate to initiate a contact without a "linker". So, as far as I know a number of people keep personal contacts, go to the meetings in order to find a collaborator or send messages to the linkedin to find someone that is interested on a project/ call. My suggestion is to prepare a list with companies, start ups and labs that they are interested to participate in collaborations for grants or find experts on specific field using keywords, field, expertize, person to contact and country. So, people can have access to their target group. This will make the first contact easier for both sides.

It doesn't seem so easy, but it's possible.

best,

Alex

Hi all,

Sorry for the long silence. We had too many overlapping deadlines.

I am compiling the the proposal Claudia drafted with input of many of your and will circulate it around in a couple of hours.  Please bear in mind that compared to the previous year in which a proper documented was needed to be submitted, this time the application is fairly simple and this " drafted document" will be for our interest only since the application will be done by filling an onlne form. After submission and approaval, we can properly submit a detailed Plan of Activities. For now, my approach is to make ir as broad as possible so we can adapt it later without issues.

I will include everyone in this thread to the proposal, although we are recommended to have up to 15 members so the WG works as efficient as possible so it will be first come first serve basis.  It doesn't mean things can change in the future.... For practical reasons, I will indicate Claudia Simao as possible Chair. Once we get it accepted, we'll have prepare a pool with all interested candidates to give a fair chance to everyone.

Indeed the time from the Call until the deadline is very short and we started late to move things forward on but I'm positive on our application.

If you didn't send me your email, please do so to have it added to the proposal and circulation of documents: mauricio.manfrini@gmail.com

More to come later today!
