Kick-off meeting and other plans

3 min read Jan 26, 2017

Dear all, time to get active!

1. Kick off meeting for our chapter - pick the date!

The new chapter regulations (found here:https://www.mariecuriealumni.eu/chapter-guidelines) say that we have to meet twice per year, and they suggest e.g. March-April and September to do this. This doesn't leave us much time to get ourselves organised for the first meeting.

I would suggest that I will host the first meeting here in Warsaw (I'll organise the seminar room and maybe somebody else can take care of catering) and the next meeting will be planned during the kick-off (and could take place somewhere else). What do you say?

You should have received a link to a google forms questionnaire (https://goo.gl/forms/mcqqxMP5STHAOtto2) which hopefully will let us collect everybody's preferences and organise this. Once we have the date picked, we can advertise and attract other MCAA members that would like to join our chapter. We can reimburse people for travel with a small amount from our budget that we can decide together (how much and how many).

2. Salamanca GA - who is going? I am! If you are going too, maybe we can book something together? Let me know! :)

3. Other events

- I have just met with Izabela Madura, who is coordinating the Poland-wide celebration of Maria Skłodowska-Curie's birthday this year. She is doing this on behalf of PTChem, who run the MSC's muzeum here in Warsaw.

There will be plenty of events that we could help out with, including popularisation of science at festivals in various cities and a big conference "Medicine Science Culture" Nov 6-9th here in Warsaw. As soon as I get the event schedule from her, I'll keep you informed.

- In Katowice there is a conference right now „Ścieżki kariery akademickiej i rozwój młodej kadry naukowej” w ramach Narodowego Kongresu Nauki". I think we have failed to put it on our radar this year, but we could try in the next one.

- there are a number of events related to MSCA that KPK posts on their website. I am not sure if you'd find it interesting if I keep pointing them out to you - you could just subscribe to the KPK newsletter and check out the events in your neighbourhood :) For example, there is a webinar on financial and legal issues in H2020 for people either writing proposals or running projects already.

- KPK just announced that they have prepared a list of MSCA projects in Poland! ( http://www.kpk.gov.pl/?page_id=34659 )

However, they lack personal details - they just have the CORDIS entries really. I will contact the person responsible to make sure we collaborate on whatever they'd like to do with this list. This could be a good starting point for growing our chapter, for starting the buddy program and the proposal-writing-help offer.

- if you have an event coming up, please try to get our chapter involved :)

Best regards,

Maria

I'll repeat the same in the email to make sure I've reached all of you. Please take note that some of your replies never made it to my inbox previously :( It is best to please turn on the "message read confirmation request" when writing to me.

Dear all,

I have already filled the questionnaire with my preferences ;) I think is a good idea to do the first onein Warsaw and then we can discuss where should be the next one, and prepear it with more time :) I think the most important in this first meeting is talk about our organization and what we want to do and plan it.

Regarding to Salamanca I really wanted to go but it will be difficult for me, it's a pitty because just ine week before I will be in Spain.

I think the celebration of Skłodowska-Curie's birthday is a good oportunity to do dissemination and outreach. It is possible to take part in this event? It would be really nice.

Hi - 6 of us have filled out the questionnaire and it looks like the following are favourite options:

  • - it should have some science content - we will give mini-presentations (50% in favour)
  • - 1-day event is preferred (66% in favour)
  • - Monday is the only day that suits all (100 % can attend)
  • - Week 1 and Week 4 have biggest potential (each 5 possible attendees)

So, the date should be either

  • March 13th (Monday) - but then we miss Clara
  • April 24th (Monday) - but then we miss Anna

Could Clara and Anna let us know if this is really the case, or perhaps their availability/preferences have changed?

An even earlier date has opened up for me (Match 6th, Monday) which I also now put in the questionnaire, so if you like you could re-take it and indicate a new preference.

And here is a link to the reponses:

Hello everyone,

I am really sorry but March 13 th is impossible for me, I won't be in poland that week. I would really like to attend so I hope we can find a solution that satisfy all of us :) there is no possibility to do it later? On March 6th it would be ok for me!

Cheers

Ok, sorry, to sum this up, I'd ask you to pick between these three dates and have it over with.

So, here comes again the Google survey:

Let's narrow it down :)

(I've tried to create a poll here on MCAA website, but there were no multiple coices allowed there.)

Hi all, several announcements:

  1. The “IT contractor” has changed our group settings. Our private group on MCAA website has become the official one, a bit to my surprise. There is now an official button “Polish Chapter” under the chapter list, that leads to that group when clicked. If you feel like there has been confidential information revealed there, feel free to go back and edit your post. If you’d like to become administrator or moderator of that group, let me know (I’ve made Michał one a long time ago just in case).
  2. We now have an official email address!! It is poland.chapter@mariecuriealumni.eu – right now it just forwards everything to my address. If you’d like to receive those emails too, let me know.
  3. Anna Wiśniewska from KPK (our national contact point) has proposed that a message from us will be sent out with the next KPK newsletter. If you’d like to help me compose the message, send me a draft, otherwise I’ll improvise something or send the one like the message below.
  4. KPK has put a link to MCAA on their website next to the list of MSCA-funded projects: http://www.kpk.gov.pl/?page_id=34659 I’ve asked them to include the message (sorry, only in Polish for now): „Zachęcamy wszystkie osoby, które były lub są uczestnikami lub koordynatorami akcji MSCA (we wszystkich programach ramowych) do bezpłatnego członkostwa w Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), poprzez bezpłatną rejestrację na https://www.mariecuriealumni.eu i wstąpienia do nowego Polskiego Oddziału MCAA, który rozpoczął swoją działalność w 2017 roku. Członkostwo w MCAA zapewnia możliwość kontaktu z innymi zrzeszonymi naukowcami oraz uczestnictwo w wydarzeniach promujących i szkolących uczestników akcji MSCA. Polski Oddział czeka na nowych członków!” Hope that is fine, feel free to suggest corrections.
  5. KPK can also send out a letter from us to all MSCA grant coordinators (institutions, I guess). I think it is great timing, we can inform them about the kick-off meeting straight away.
  6. Kick-off date: right now it looks like MARCH 6TH suits 5 of us. I would stick to that, even though it’s a bit soon (but we’d have a chance to meet before the General Assembly and maybe you can help me write the first report).
  • Is there somebody who’d like to assemble a program for our meeting and make an advertising leaflet?
  • A volunteer to arrange catering?
  • What number of attendees do we expect?
  • We have 2000 EU budget, I guess we can spend it all on the kick-off (though then maybe we’ll need to apply for another sum of money for the Septemeber meeting later on). In that case, how much goes to catering and how much goes to travel reimbursements “stipend” for attendees?
  • How many stipends and how big should we agree on?

Think on it and let me know,

Best wishes,

Maja
