Polish Chapter Kick-off summary
Dear members, thank you for attending the very first meeting of our Polish Chapter!
It was great to meet you all this week, I hope you have found it as enjoyable and stimulating an experience as I definitely have!
I would like to summarise the outcome of the discussions and the plans for activities to follow.
1. Communication (in charge: Michał Karpiński)
- Internal - through a private Google group
We have decided to create an emailing group - an email sent to the group will be forwarded automatically to all who subscribe. If you would like to be added to the emailing group, let Michał Karpiński know.
- External - through a Google website
We have agreed to create a public depository of our member data - detailing how to contact each of us + our areas of expertise. This way we can be asked to serve as experts by third parties, or to help researchers applying for MSCA. You will decide for yourself whether you would like to be listed in such a depository/website - no data will be shared this way without an explicit agreement.
2. Polish Chapter on-line presence: sharing our identities, news and enabling others to contact us
- Google website - public website (in charge: Michał Karpiński)
On the website, we will advertise:
- who we are - epsecially those members who agree to be listed in our public directory
- how to enter our buddy system
- how to contact us for help (e.g. for proposal writing or for examples of documents necessary for foreigners to start working in Poland)
- news: events and awards
- BTW: we need a logo for the Polish Chapter!
- Facebook - public group for the Polish Chapter (in charge: Monika Gaik, monika.gaik@uj.edu.pl)
Please find us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/MCAA.Polish.Chapter
- LinkedIn group (in charge: Javier Martinez Suarez) - if you can't find the group, you might want to find Javier on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/javier-martinez-suarez-18b81374)
3. Chapter Board functions
- Treasurer: Clara Llorens Quintana (clara.llorens.quintana@pwr.edu.pl).
Clara will keep track of our spending - if you know exactly how many euros your expenses (Travel Grant, catering charge etc.) have detracted from our Chapter budget, please let Clara know each time.
- PR/Writing Officer: Rohan Soman
Keep Rohan updated each time you have news please - for example, when you have advertised MCAA at a conference, or if you have received an award. Photos of events are very welcome!!! Rohan will collect news and write them up for our periodic reports and newsletters.
- Training and Career Development Officer: Maria Górna
If you have particular training needs, let us know, we will try to organise a workshop or training to suit you. We will also try to inform you if a useful training event will take place in English near you. We are looking into enabling other members to join some soft skills training events which might be organised for some of the COFUND programmes.
4. Next events
- September 2017 - second meeting of the Polish Chapter
Our next Chapter meeting will take place either in Gdańsk (hosts: Rohan and Javier) or in Kraków (host: Monika Gaik). We will announce/vote on the exact date soon to allow us to plan well ahead.
- Local Pub Meets
Cities with enough MCAA members may want to meet more frequently for a chat over a beer or coffee.
You can meet the members in Warsaw on April 21st, 5:30 pm (planned venue: the cafe-bar "Jeleń na Rykowisku", Grójecka 118)
- MCAA-GA in Salamanca and MSCA 2017 in Malta - some of our Chapter members are going, looking forward to seeing some of you there!
- Maria Skłodowska-Curie's birthday celebrations - we will coordinate once we have a plan of celebrations in English. One of the planned events to participate in is the Baltic Science Festival (in charge: Rohan Soman)
- ERA Career Day organised by NCPs and Euraxess: a 3-day series of events will take place in 5 cities in October in Poland, and in each city an MCAA member will serve as an ambassador. So far, we have picked ambassadors for: Warsaw (Maria Górna), Kraków (Monika Gaik), which leaves Gliwice, Poznań and Łódź. I remember some of you volunteered for one of the last three, but can't recall who signed up for which - please recall and inform the rest :)
We will be back soon with more updates, and when we launch the website, Facebook and LinkedIn groups - let's stay in touch!
best wishes,
Maria
