Update about Baltic Festival

1 min read Apr 05, 2017
Hello! As you guys are aware that I was trying to get a chance for us to have some presence at the Baltic Festival, I got hardly any response from both the Universit7y of Gdanks, and Politechnika, but still I have secured a chance to participate at the 10th Sopot Day of Science (and simultaneously XIV Baltic Festival of Science), May 27, 2017 which is organized by the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Science. I am still in India, due to a family emergency and have little or no access to the internet, but will still try my best to keep you informed on the developments. I will like to just check if there are any volunteers. Regards, Rohan

Hi Rohan, thank you, great job!

Hopefully Clara can help you (we'd cover Clara's travel/accommodation from the Chapter budget) - it is May 27th, right?

Maybe other local members would like to help, too - e.g. Maciej Telesiński?

Don't forget to ask MCAA support for promotional materials ahead of time, they will ship them for free directly to you - see below:

Here is an excerpt from Chapter Guidelines - 4.Communication section:

"Available MCAA promotional materials can be provided to Chapters, such as an MCAA logo, promotional items (e.g. leaflets, pens) and templates for communications[vii] with outside organisations. In case of requesting such items, Chapters shall provide information about the event, number of expected participants and full address (including a telephone number) to which the promotional materials shall be posted. All requests shall be made to contact@mariecuriealumni.eu.

Chapters planning to organise an event shall contact the “Communication Working Group” and the “Events and Networking Working Group” to inform them about their intentions, and to solicit their support in the planning/implementation of the event."

Best wishes,

Maja

to be honest it's the first time I hear about the Sopot Day of Science and th Baltic Festival of Science (I'm living in 3City only since last August). Can you send me some more information about these events? I can't find any information about this year's edition on the internet (nor on our institute's website). I should be available on May 27th so I could help. What would be our task there? Do you know who is responsible for the event in IOPAS so that I could contact them directly if necessary?

Best regards,

Maciej

Hello Everyone,

here is the link to the photos from last years science day (just to get an idea of what we are getting into)

http://www.iopan.gda.pl/Albumy/SDN2016_BB/index.html

Unfortunately, I dont know the contact person who is incharge at IOPAN as I am in contact with her, through one of my colleagues.

Also, I am currently in India, so not in the best position to co-ordinate things. I hope I will be back around 3rd of May, which will leave us 3 weeks to organize everything properly.

So, what I recommend is, if you are interested, we can start working on the MCAA Polish chapter part of the presentation. The idea is to bring forward the benefits of careers in science, and also share some personal experiences. I had made a very informal presentation in couple of schools in tricity on the chances MSCA offers to us, and I saw that it did make an impact.

First you can ask around in your institute, and find the contact person, and discuss directly.

As the discussion stands, I was hoping to get a stand for IMP PAN at the Sopot day of science, and present some scientific work of my research team, in addition I will have one section dedicated to the promotion of scientific careers and MCAA Polish Chapter plus MSCA. I think we should continue on this plan, as a Professor from my institute is arranging this, so I am pretty confident it will happen. So we can make 2/3 posters of the career opportunities is research, thedifferent proposals or calls of MSCA, and one of the marie curie alumni in Poland sharing their experiences, In addition we can have small presentations at the sopot day, and talk with the people about how exciting mobility is.

The tentative titles to my presentations were:

Monitoring techniques for intelligent structures

Mobile Careers: Horizon 2020 and beyond

If anyone has any more ideas, please feel free to share. As I said, I am in India, and secondly I am not very artsy, if someone wants to take the lead on making the posters, it will be awesome. Any volunteers??

Regards,

Rohan

Hello Maciej.

I just had an update about the Baltic Festival that is organized by IOPAN in Sopot.

There is a meeting scheduled in the institute on 9th May 2017 at 13:00.

I am planning to attend it, but I am afraid most of the discussion will be in Polish and I will not be able to follow all the parts.

So, if you are free and available may be you can join me at the meeting

As for the person at IOPAN handling the event, the name is Violetta Drozdowska.

If you are at all interested, please drop me a line on my personal email rsoman@imp.gda.pl

Regards,

Rohan

I think Clara you can take the lead on the poster, we will have input from others to make it pretty if need be.

My idea was to make 2 A0 size posters, one to highlight the opportunities that are present the different MSCA actions that are available for the public, I think we can take the help from KPK on that one for the information. Actually it might be even helpful to have the poster in Polish, or bi-lingual one, your inputs are welcome on this

The second poster can be a more informal one sharing the experiences of the fellows, it can be about what opportunities the fellows got, that set them apart than other PhD or post doc fellowships

Please feel free to contribute the ideas.

Regards,

Rohan
