Elections for new MCAA Board and Executive Committee 2024

Open Call for MCAA Board Candidates (CLOSED)

Every two years, a new MCAA Board and Executive Committee are to be elected by the members attending the General Assembly (either physically or remotely); the upcoming election will be on the 16th of March 2024 during the General Assembly in Millan. The MCAA Board and Executive Agency are the two bodies governing the organisation. The 11 Board members will be legally responsible for the MCAA. You can now put your name forward for the election to play a key part in the association's future.  

You have until the 31st January 2024 (17:00 CET Brussels Time) to present your candidacy for the upcoming eleven Board positions to be elected, as follows:

● One Chair of the Board (and Executive Committee)

● Two Vice-Chairs of the Board (and Executive Committee)

● One Treasurer of the Board (and Executive Committee)

● One Secretary of the Board (and Executive Committee)

● Six Ordinary Board Members

Also keep in mind the following major rules:

a) An individual can run for at most one (1) Board position, provided they are eligible. If an individual applies to run for a Board position, they cannot apply to run for another Board position simultaneously.

b) A Board member shall not be elected more than two times. 

c) The term/mandate of the Board shall not be remunerated.

The responsibilities of the Board are described in the Articles of Association; you can consult them here.

To be eligible for election, Marie Curie alumni shall comply with the following criteria:

● Comply with all the requirements stated in Article 2 of the Election Rules

● To be registered on the Marie Curie Alumni web-portal for at least 12 months before the date of the election;

● Not have been already a member of the Board for two full terms. 

● To have set up a personal and career profile in the web portal, completed to at least 90%;

● To have filled in the Board Application Form, available on the web portal, during the nomination period, and no later than 31th January 2024 (17:00 CET Brussels Time).

● To have no conflicts of interest (candidates must declare potential conflicts of interest, which will be evaluated by the Task Force  before validating the candidacy).

● To have no criminal record and have not been involved in any illegal or unethical activity, including fraud, tax evasion, influence peddling, etc.

● Adhere to the values of the MCAA and the Articles of the Association (AoA).

● They may not be a member of the MCAA 2024 Election Task Force designated to prepare these guidelines:

Excom Members Eligibility: 

An additional eligibility criterion is required for applying to any Excom position:

● The Excom members should show previous experience of leadership, either within MCAA (Members of the Board, Chairs of the Chapters or Working Groups) or outside MCAA in equivalent positions of leadership. 

BOARD MEMBERS’ ROLES AND EXPECTED COMMITMENT

Being a Board member of the MCAA represents a legal responsibility and entails a considerable time commitment. 

All ordinary Board members are required to commit 2-3 hours per week on MCAA-related tasks, including, but not limited to:

● participating in the Board meetings & monthly meetings;

● allocating budget for all different budget lines;

● representing MCAA at internal and external meetings;

● broader decision making, like helping in the Annual Conference organisation and other MCAA-wide events, coordinating and supporting working groups activities, contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation, etc;

● drafting, reviewing and signing/supporting MCAA statements and other documents and activities that align with the MCAA strategy;

● supporting the organisation of the General Assembly and related work including the revision of the Articles of the Association whenever needed;

Board members who are also part of the executive committee will have additional responsibilities. As such, a higher time commitment is requested. 

Specifically, every Excom Board Member will be required to commit to the following tasks, including, but not limited to:

● participating in Monthly Excom Meetings,

● Voting on different types of grants and decisions 

● Voting on Plans of Activities and Reports for all Chapters & the Working Groups 

● Allocating the budget for Chapters & the Working Groups activities based on the review of their plans

frequently representing MCAA at online meetings, at times in person, especially for events organised by MCAA stakeholders;

● all the responsibilities expected from ordinary Board members.

Furthermore, different roles in the Executive Committee represent different responsibilities:

● The MCAA Chair would be required to commit an average amount of 10-12 hours per week to MCAA-related tasks, including but not limited to:

- executing operational tasks and collaborating with the MCAA Secretariat

- working as a contact point for MSCA Unit and other stakeholders

- reviewing and signing legal documents;

- organising the Board meetings and General Assembly (once a year)

- reviewing and signing MCAA statements, white papers, etc;

- Supervising, when applicable, to email communication from members and stakeholders;

- all the responsibilities expected from Excom & Board members.

- all the responsibilities expected from ordinary Board members.

● The MCAA Vice-chairs would be required to commit an average amount of 5-8 hours per week to MCAA-related tasks, including but not limited to:

- executing operational tasks and collaborating with the MCAA Secretariat;

- supporting the work of the MCAA chair, when required;

- reviewing and signing legal documents;

- reviewing and signing MCAA statement, white papers, etc;

- Supervising, when applicable, to email communication from members and stakeholders;

- all the responsibilities expected from Excom Board members.

- all the responsibilities expected from ordinary Board members.

● The MCAA Treasurer would be required to commit an average amount of 3-5 hours per week on MCAA-related tasks, including but not limited to:

- overseeing and managing the financial aspects of MCAA;

- contributing to the preparation of the Annual Accounts at the GA;

- presenting the Annual Accounts at the GA;

- all the responsibilities expected from Excom & Board members.

- all the responsibilities expected from ordinary Board members.

● The MCAA Secretary would be required to commit an average amount of 3-5 hours per week on MCAA-related tasks, including but not limited to:

- supporting the drafting and editing of the minutes of the MCAA Board meetings and Excom meeting

- coordinating the communication efforts, through internal communication bulletins, among Board members, between Excom and ordinary Board members and between the Board members and the chairs of Chapters & the Working Groups 

- all the responsibilities expected from Excom Board members.

- all the responsibilities expected from ordinary Board members. 

PUBLICATION OF CANDIDATES’ PROFILES AND APPLICATIONS

Candidate's profiles, positions to which they are applying, and a short statement regarding their application will be published, in alphabetical order, on the MCAA web portal and thus available to all registered members. The compendium will be available online at least two weeks ahead of the opening of the vote.
