“Science Communication: Making Research Accessible”

Why this theme?

Science communication ensures that research does not remain confined to academic journals but reaches society in ways that are accessible, engaging, and impactful. Taking knowledge to diverse audiences strengthens the relationship between science and society, building trust and fostering dialogue.

In a world facing misinformation, rapid technological change, and urgent global challenges, researchers must adapt their communication strategies to connect with different communities, so as to support informed decision-making and foster positive behavioural changes.

The December 2025 Special Issue of the MCAA Newsletter will explore the many dimensions of science communication, highlighting practices, challenges, and lessons that showcase how it bridges research and society.

Open call for contributions

We invite MCAA members to submit contributions that reflect on experiences, strategies, and innovations in science communication. Submissions may take the form of articles, interviews, case studies, or personal reflections.

Topics of interest

Contributions may address (but are not limited to):

• Tools, platforms, and methods for effective science communication
• Storytelling, narratives, and creative approaches to engage audiences
• Accessibility and inclusion across languages, cultures, and for people with different needs
• The role of science communication in policymaking
• Training and skills development for researchers
• Opportunities and challenges of digital and social media
• Success stories, lessons learned, and reflections from practice
• The ethical and social dimensions of science communication, including misinformation, public trust, and the responsible use of AI-driven tools
• Evaluating communication effectiveness through metrics, assessment frameworks, and evidence-based practices

How to submit

  1. 1. Submit a pitch (50–150 words) via the submission form by 30 September 2025.
  2. 2. Authors of accepted pitches will be notified by 30 September 2025 and invited to submit a full article (approx. 750 words), following the MCAA Editorial Guidelines and Editorial Rules.
    3. The deadline for initial draft submissions is 16 October 2025.

All contributions will be reviewed by the guest editors, supported by the MCAA Editorial Board.
