Joana Magalhães
Senior Researcher, Science for Change
Joana Magalhães is a Senior Researcher at Science for Change, working in the intersection of citizen science and science communication. She is currently the Co-PI of the COALESCE project, building the European Competence Centre for Science Communication. She holds a European PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, obtained as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow under the ITN Alea Jacta Est. She held previous postdoctoral positions in the field of regenerative medicine and osteoarthritis, whilst developing PPI and winning STEAM4health communication strategies from a gender perspective (1st Ex Aequo Award, Category Science Communication-Television, radio and press at Science on Stage; Honourable Mention Women in Science at SCI-DOC EU Science TV and New Media Festival; Finalist MEDEA Awards). She is an Academic at the Galician Academy for Portuguese Language (AGLP), Secretary of the Spanish Association of Women in Science and Technology at the Galician Node (AMIT), and Vice-Chair of the Policy Working Group of the European Association of Citizen Science (ECSA).
