Magdalini Theodoridou
Magdalini Theodoridou holds a PhD in Science for Conservation (University of Bologna, funded by the Marie Curie Actions) and a diploma in Civil Engineering (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). From 2010 to 2018, she worked at the University of Cyprus (research and teaching), with significant scientific contributions to the design and development of novel construction materials bridging traditional and modern technologies, as well as the application of non-destructive techniques.
In 2018, she moved to the UK to work as an MSCA Individual Fellow at Cardiff School of Engineering, focusing on the biological self-healing of geological construction materials and structures. Her MSCA-IF included secondments at the National Research Council of Italy and the University of Florence. In March 2020, she joined the world's first Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment as a Newcastle University Academic Track Fellow, leading research on novel biotechnological processes and applications for sustainable building and heritage conservation. Currently, she is a senior researcher at the University of Cyprus and a visiting lecturer at Newcastle University. She is a member of the Marie Curie Alumni Association and a founding member of the Working Group (WG) on Gender Equality and Diversity for Mobile Researchers in Science (GEMS). Between 2018 and 2024, she chaired the Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) WG. She currently leads the GEDI WG Family & Career Inclusivity Task Force and the Science Policy Task Force of the Policy WG on Research Careers and Assessment. She is also a board member of the Artificial Intelligence WG and a member of the Sustainability WG, as well as of national Chapters in Greece, the UK, and Cyprus. She acts as the MCAA representative at the CoARA TIER WG. Her experience in interdisciplinary research, mobility, EDI advocacy, and science policy supports the Association's goals of promoting a responsible and ethical research environment.
