Paul Killeen

Paul Killeen is a Senior Standardisation & Innovation Expert and ‘Research & Innovation lead’ at the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). Paul is currently working as a Seconded National Expert at the European Commission in DG CONNECT (EU Digital Policy) in the ICT Standardisation Sector team based in Brussels – working in close collaboration with colleagues across DG CONNECT and other partner DGs including DG RTD (R&I policy, including on knowledge transfer & valorisation and EIC links), DG GROW (SMEs & enterprise development policy), DG EAC (Education, with a focus on Marie Curie programmes) & DG JRC (science for policy) - with a focus on the strategic integration of research, innovation and standardisation for greater impact at scale in line with the European Standardisation Strategy and DG CONNECT initiatives in support of EU digital policy priorities related to digital regulations, new strategic digital technologies, research & innovation priorities and EU international digital strategy. Formerly Director of Research, Innovation & Enterprise Development at Technical University Shannon in Ireland, and Senior Innovation Manager at University College Dublin, Paul also chaired the Knowledge & Technology Transfer Committee of ‘Institutes of Technology Ireland’ and was a member of the national Knowledge Transfer Ireland Stakeholder Forum. Paul also spent 20 years working in leading private sector international companies across various sectors, including Hewlett-Packard as Innovation Manager, Business Development Manager and Senior Principal R&D Engineer. Paul joined NSAI in 2017, where he promotes and supports the engagement of national R&I experts in the early stages of International standards development across new & emerging technology areas, aligned with National & European policy priorities. Prior to NSAI, Paul held various senior technical and business development positions in leading multi-national corporations and academic institutions in Ireland and internationally. Paul is a Chartered Engineer with a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering, and a Master's in Business Administration/MBA.
