Thank you very useful! Does anyone know if after four years as a post-doc in Germany I am now considered a German researcher or still "from abroad"?

Cheers

Hi Helen,

I asked a very similar question while I was at the workshop. The general feedback I got is "it depends" - each organisation assesses whether you have integrated into the German system, so there may not be a hard rule par se. What I would suggest is contacting the organisations directly to discuss your options, I found everyone at the workshop to be very friendly and helpful with this question in particular.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your reply, OK, will do!

Best wishes

Dear Helen,

I am interested in the implication of being a German researcher or still "from abroad":

  1. Is it for jobs reserved for Germans (the Maastricht Treaty protects EU citizens against this type of discrimination by making freedom of movement of labour a core principle of the EU) or
  2. Is it for eligibility for programs that require mobility: DAAD, Humboldt, Marie Sklodowska Curie and so on. If I want to have outgoing DAAD support, I must be in Germany for a number of years before qualifying?

Warm regards,

Brian

Hi Brian

I was thinking more about funding bodies (I haven't come across any such job adverts).

All the best
