Register here and join us for the upcoming Around the World webinar on Jan 10, 2025 at 16:00 (CET) - "Science Communication: More than just words".

Science communication is often seen as a problem of linguistic translation but how can we effectively express technical scientific knowledge in a language that everyone can understand? In this webinar, Prof. Louise Whiteley will discuss the limits of translation, and why ‘gaps’ in understanding can actually be a source of creativity and mutual understanding. According to her, communication is more than translation of words – it involves feelings, identity, culture, and can contribute to the formation of new communities.

Prof. Whitely illustrates these ideas with concrete examples from her work as an Associate Professor and Curator at the University of Copenhagen’s Medical Museion – a public museum for the past, present, and future of medicine (www.museion.ku.dk). Working with exhibitions, objects, and artworks helps to bring forth the ‘extra dimensions’ of communication – whilst also reminding us of the importance of choosing words carefully. She will also share some experiences from their work collaborating with scientists and artists, suggesting that good communication is just as important for interdisciplinary research as it is for public engagement.
