Expanding researchers opportunities- life beyond academia
.
Not sure what steps to take for a career transition outside academia? How to avoid mistakes in a job market you don't yet have experience of? Then come on out to this event!
Researchers with academic backgrounds increasingly choose or are forced to pursue careers outside of academia. But a career change is not easy to address if you don’t have experience of that specific job market. The sense of disorientation is around the corner.
With the help of experts, we will give the necessary hints to the researcher on how to address the transition at the best and how to deal with this change through the support of those who have gone through this experience before you.
During the event Dr. Eva Ratti, PhD in Astrophysics, co-founder and manager of FindYourDoc (https://www.findyourdoc.org/index.php/it/) will present the current job market situation for PhDs, while the 4 speakers, Dr. Salvatore Croce, Dr. Giordano Cattani, Dr. Elena Zucchini and Dr. Joaquin Capablo will share their firsthand experience with the public. Dr. Ratti will interview the speakers dwelling on the most important issues according to her experience and topics requested by the audience itself through a survey launched in the past month. The last part of the event will be open to questions from the audience, giving an opportunity to interact with the speakers.
This event is open to all and it is organized by Dr. Vladislav Gavryusev
and Dr. Giulia Bruno from Marie Curie Alumni Association in partnership
with Dr. Eva Ratti from FindYourDoctor.
It will be held on 19th October 2022 17:30 CET.

New languages for dissemination: the Comics&Science experience
Dr Roberto Natalini
>>> 6th of June at 13:00 CEST
Science is sometimes considered a difficult subject to be disseminated to a general audience and often it is little loved by students. Yet, Science has an enormous impact on our everyday life. Is it possible to better communicate Science with the help of comics?
This is the experiment that the Comics & Science project has been doing for years in collaboration with the National Research Council of Italy. The mathematician Henri Poincaré used to say that geometry is the art of reasoning well on poorly drawn figures. We tried to see what happened to draw them well.

MCAA Scicomm Series 22
April 21st at 13:00 CEST
The workshop will present unique writing techniques that will get you closer to the fundamental features of excellent research writing, regardless of the particulars of any one discipline: clear, concise, fluid, organized, convincing, and engaging.
You will be guided through the process of creating a compelling story of your research journey that can sustain the reader's attention to ensure continuous reading of your paper. In addition, you will learn how to keep your story moving forward using such a great attention-getter as change. With each change, you will understand how your story progresses, widens, narrows, or jumps. You will learn how to do your research writing appropriate for an international peer-reviewed journal, but you will also learn how to use compelling twists in the story plot and mighty shouts that call the reader's attention. Finally, you will learn how to reintroduce tension and suspense in your paper to sustain the initial attention of your motivated readers as they plough through the challenging parts of your paper, where the attention drains fast. Since your reader's attention is not deserved but earned through hard work, it is time for you to practice!
When ideas stop moving, the story lengthens, making your paper unnecessary long, complex, and as a result, tedious. The workshop will also teach you to avoid story-killers (e.g., lakes, whirlpools, omega meanders, and counter-currents). These proven story-killers, which create a chaotic and repetitious flow of ideas, contribute to the never-ending paragraphs that stretch over one entire column of a journal and depress the reader even before reading your paper.

Collaborations - Looking for proposal partnership
A Member of the MCAAIC is part of a consortium preparing a proposal for the new call MCAA Doctoral Network.
They are looking for an industrial partner: GYRATION (Gas-hydrate storage and sequestration in adsorbed to nano-engineered surfaces) is a project for the Doctoral Network MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, HORIZON Europe 2021, call deadline: 16th of November). GYRATION is based on an international consortium of academic and industrial partners working on the storage of hydrogen and polluting gases in porous ice-based media (hydrate).
The consortium is looking for more industrial partners to optimize the technology transfer process. Both consulting activities and engineering implementation design are of interest to the consortium. Please, contact Prof. Niall English, niall.english@ucd.ie for information.
