DESCRIPTION:
Sant Joan de Déu Hospital is seeking an innovative scientist in the area of human microbiome
research. The successful candidate will work in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Reacher Group
(Group Leader Carmen Muñoz-Almagro, MD,PhD). Our group has a longstanding research
activity on molecular epidemiology of vaccine-preventable paediatric diseases and hostpathogen
interaction in the development of invasive diseases produced by pathobionts such as
S. pneumoniae. Regarding the field of host-pathogen interactions, we are focused on the
study of the human respiratory microbiota as potential biomarker for health and disease.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates will possess a B.S. or M.S or PhD in Biomedicine or related areas.

The position requires expertise in molecular microbiology (“wet lab”) and computational
(‘dry lab’) work. Previous experience in microbiome research is required, including
DNA/RNA isolation and purification, sequencing on next-generation platforms and
bioinformatic analyses of genomic datasets. Additional expectations include daily electronic
registration of lab work, summarizing and reporting data, training and meeting with
collaborators, and writing papers.

The candidate will have a demonstrable track record of participating in research projects with
contributions as an author to high-impact, peer-reviewed publications in the field. He/she will
possess strong oral and written communication skills and an ability to work as part of a team
in a dynamic research environment

SALARY
We offer a contract for one year (Salary range postdoctoral level). In addition, during this first
year , the candidate will apply for competitive grants (Marie Slodowska-Curie or National
grants)
