Project: Molecular characterization of bacterial-surface interface of biofilm.
An opportunity exists at the University of Dayton (UD) for a PhD studentship in microbiology, beginning in mid-August 2017. The student will be based at UD and will work in the laboratory of Dr. Yasuhiko Irie. I am seeking a motivated student who is eager to perform the arduous tasks associated with microbiological laboratory research and the careful work of cell and molecular experimentations. We employ a variety of molecular techniques including but not exclusive of genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular biololgy, microscopy, and any other tools that will help us understand the molecular interactions between bacteria and the surface they attach to biofilm communities. We mainly work on pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bordetella spp., but this is not an exclusive list.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree, or is in the process of obtaining one before the summer. The student will be initially supported by a teaching assistantship through the Department of Biology at UD. The assistantship is associated with a competitive stipend, tuition remission, and benefits. Support is guaranteed for the life of the project pending satisfactory performance.
