PhD position in epigenetics

Interested in cutting-edge epigenetics research?

The lab of Philipp Rathert (Biochemistry Department, University Stuttgart) is recruiting a PhD student for a project focused on molecular epigenetics. You will work on a highly collaborative project and you will perform functional genetic screens (CRISPR/Cas, shRNA) in normal and cancer cell lines to discover novel epigentic networks to identify new targets for drug development and genetic modifiers of available cancer therapeutics.

During your PhD, you will closely work together with scientists in the fields of fundamental biomedical research and in patient-related clinical research.

For this project we are seeking PhD student who shares our enthusiasm about epigenetics and cutting-edge functional genomics, is excited to join a vibrant and very collaborative research team and is highly motivated to learn how to handle and deeply investigate large NGS datasets in cancer research.

As a PhD student in our team you will

  • work embedded in a group of experienced biochemists and clinicians with complementary expertise, who will provide constant support and training
  • work closely together with an experienced supervisor, who has profound expertise in all relevant experimental methods develop a strong background in in multiplexed functional genetic screening approaches using state-of-the-art CRISPR/Cas and shRNA reagents
  • gain knowledge and experience in the primary analysis and integration of diverse NGS datasets (multiplexed CRISPR/Cas9 screens and diverse epigenomic tools)

Successful candidates should have

  • strong experience in various cell culture techniques
  • interest and basic knowledge in epigenetics
  • bioinformatic experience, ideally epigenomics and NGS data analysis principles
  • excellent communication skills in English and an ability to translate and communicate results
