Policy Officer

Job description:

The position will be responsible for supporting all policy activities in MCAA

  • Research and analyze EU policies and initiatives relevant to MCAA’s interest, including but not limited to Sustainable Research Career, Research Assessment, Open Science, Science Diplomacy, EU funding, Mental health, etc.
  • Support and collaborate with MCAA representatives (ERA Forum, CoARA, ISE, EU SciDip Alliance)  in external initiatives and to the Policy Working group 
  • Advocate for MCAA's positions and interests within EU institutions and with relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus on EU policy-related matters.
  • Monitor and analyse EU policies and initiatives in the fields of R&I of interest to the university sector, providing strategic advice and contributing to the positioning of the network.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, surveys, policy documents, and briefings on EU policy developments and their potential impact on MCAA.
  • Communicate policy changes and updates to the MCAA board and the secretariat.
  • Support the work in the projects where MCAA is a partner, e.g. CoARA Boost.

 

What we expect:

  • A graduate qualification or higher; experience working in a science policy ecosystem is a plus
  • Strong research and analytical skills with a focus on EU matters
  • Able to evaluate detailed, complex quantitative and qualitative information
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (at least C1 level)
  • Good teamwork abilities, particularly in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary context
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • The readiness to join an international virtual team

 

Will be considered as advantages: 

  • A master’s degree in public policy or European studies
  • Two years experience in a similar role 
  • In-depth knowledge of EU institutions, decision-making processes, and key stakeholders
  • C2 level in English 
  • A person residing in Belgium or willing to relocate to Belgium, if necessary

 

What we offer:

  • MCAA service contract as a freelancer from December 2024 until the end of December 2025, renewable depending on the performance and the availability of the budget
  • Compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, with a daily gross rate ranging from 140 euros to 160 euros. A correction coefficient may apply depending on the geographical location.
  • The position is expected to be 24 to 30 hours/week.
