Policy Officer (Remote)

 

Job description:

 

The position will be responsible for supporting all policy activities in MCAA

  • Research and analyse EU policies and initiatives relevant to MCAA’s interests, including, but not limited to, Sustainable Research Careers, Research Assessment, Open Science, Science Diplomacy, EU funding, Mental health, etc.
  • Support and collaborate with MCAA representatives (ERA Forum, CoARA, ISE, EU SciDip Alliance)  in external initiatives, as well as to the Policy Working group 
  • Advocate for MCAA's positions and interests within EU institutions and with relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus on EU policy-related matters
  • Monitor and analyse EU policies and initiatives in the fields of R&I of interest to the university sector, providing strategic advice and contributing to the positioning of the network
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, surveys, policy documents, and briefings on EU policy developments and their potential impact on the MCAA
  • Communicate policy changes and updates to the MCAA board and the secretariat.



 

What we expect:

  • A graduate qualification or higher; experience working in a science policy ecosystem is a plus
  • Strong research and analytical skills with a focus on EU matters
  • Able to evaluate detailed, complex quantitative and qualitative information
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (at least C1 level)
  • Good teamwork abilities, particularly in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary context
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Comfortable working in a remote, multicultural, and collaborative environment.
  • Availability during Western European working hours.



 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in public policy or European studies
  • 2 years of experience in a similar role 
  • In-depth knowledge of EU institutions, decision-making processes, and key stakeholders
  • C2 level in English 



 

What we offer:

  • Contract Type and Duration: This position will be offered as a Horizon Europe Personal Cost A2 category service contract (freelancer) from July 15, 2025, until September 30, 2027. The duration can be extended based on performance. Applicants must have all necessary arrangements (e.g., tax registration, legal status) in their country of residence to work as freelancers.
  • Compensation: Compensation based on relevant experience, with a daily gross rate ranging from 140 to 160 Euros (VAT and taxes included). A correction coefficient may apply based on geographical location.
  • Time Commitment: Requiring approximately 180 to 215 working days per year, with higher commitment during specific periods if applicable.
  • Work Arrangement: Flexible working hours, remote position.
