Postdoc in Organometallic Polynuclear Chemistry

A 1 year postdoc fellowship is now available at DTU Chemistry, starting as soon as possible. The project will be under supervision of Assistant Professor Martin Nielsen and is funded by a DFF-Danish ERC-support program. Responsibilities and tasks We are seeking a very ambitious person, who is eager and able to contribute significantly to establishing a field of designing and synthesizing polynuclear coordination complexes, for homogeneous organometallic polynuclear chemistry with novel reactivities. The focus will be on designing, synthesizing, and characterizing well-defined polynuclear inorganic coordination complexes. The aim is to develop novel chemistry based on these clusters. This involves Organic syntheses of new ligands Inorganic syntheses of novel polynuclear coordination complexes In-depth structural and property characterizations of all new compounds Testing and optimizing for novel organometallic transformations Participation in supervision of students of all levels will be an integrated part of the job, and acquisition of teaching experience is supported. In specific, this position includes supervision of, and collaboration with, a PhD student throughout the whole period. Other content of the position: In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to Scientific production and research potential at an international level Scientific experience basis, preferably including international experience Innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas Ability and willingness to work in a highly ambitious research group that aims to establish new research fields, and thus is prepared to take greater scientific risks than the general trend is in academia Ability to communicate scientific results at both an academic level and in layman’s terms Ability and eagerness to attract independent funding. It is required that you apply at third party funding agencies for your own independent research funding, which can complement this funding for your stay. Success with these applications is not a prerequisite for staying in this position, but excellent applications are expected The research plan (see application procedure) Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Further qualifications: The candidate should have a strong background in experimental chemistry and commitment to research. The ideal candidate has a background in transition metal coordination chemistry and/or organometallic catalysis and/or homogeneous inorganic chemistry. Experience on the exact mentioned topics is not a prerequisite for a successful application, if excellence can be demonstrated in another, related chemistry research field. Candidates should be highly motivated, eager to seek and share knowledge, able to work independently in a dynamic group environment, and should be confident in planning and carrying out complicated tasks. Good communication skills in both written and spoken English are expected.
