We are looking for:

Postdoctoral Fellow

Project description
The project “A multidimensional toolkit for modern electron microscopy” was recently funded by The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. The goal of the project is to develop a toolkit enabling high throughput, high precision scanning and multidimensional experiments on existing transmission electron microscopes for materials and life science research. Acquisition and processing of multidimensional data is the core of this project. Key challenges include the assembly of hardware-based data collection instrumentation as well as the development of software-based analysis tools for very large data sets.

Main responsibilities
The position will involve development of methods for processing of large volumes of data, such as scanning electron diffraction and spectroscopic data, by (semi-)automated means, to quantitatively analyze the processed data and to present the results using open source software.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

The selection will be based on both scientific excellence and well-documented experience in scientific programming and method development. A suitable background is a PhD in science or engineering. Proven experience in scientific programming and method development is essential. Experience in data processing using Python or similar packages is an advantage. Knowledge of or experience with electron microscopy techniques are a bonus, but not essential. The successful candidate will join a vibrant multidisciplinary team of students, post-docs and senior researchers and should therefore be a self-motivated and good team player as well as an independent researcher. Results will be used by the academic and industrial collaborators, thus excellent communication and organizational skills are also necessary.
