Science Europe Vacancy – Policy Officer
Science Europe are currently looking for a Policy Officer. The successful candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for supporting collaboration among the Member Organisations, for developing advocacy strategies on key issues for scientific research in Europe, and for advising the Science Europe governance on policy developments. To do so, the team works closely with experts from the Member Organisations, with the Scientific Advisory Committee, with the rest of the Science Europe Office and with relevant external partners.
Responsibilities
- You will support the senior officers of the Policy and Research Affairs team with the monitoring of European and global developments in specific research policy areas;
- You will organise, or contribute to organising, events, publications and other activities related to Science Europe’s priorities;
- You will draft reports, minutes, policy briefings on policy developments and provide summary and/or detailed analysis of documents issued by the EU and other stakeholders;
- You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of European science and research policies;
- You will liaise with European Institutions, stakeholder organisations and the wider policy community as necessary;
- You will actively develop and maintain a network of contacts, and you will use contact management tools such as contact databases;
- You will fulfil other responsibilities and tasks as directed by the Secretary-General and the senior officers of the Policy and Research Affairs team.
Your profile
Essential
- You are educated to at least master’s level;
- You have some experience (1 or 2 years) or a strong interest in policy at EU level;
- You have good knowledge of policy-making processes at the European level and of the EU Institutions;
- You have the ability to work across a wide range of policy topics and the capacity to learn and acquire knowledge quickly;
- You have excellent research, analytical and organisational skills;
- You have excellent verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to write well in English, including analysis papers, briefings, and other written outputs;
- You perform effectively in environments with frequent workload/file changes and competing demands while delivering strong results to strict deadlines;
- You have a proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders;
- You have the ability to work independently and in a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships;
- You are highly motivated and have a pro-active, flexible and ‘hands on’ approach to work;
- You are willing to travel in Europe occasionally.
Desirable
The following skills and experience are additional assets to your application:
- Knowledge of other European languages;
- Some knowledge of or experience working in policy areas that are relevant to Science Europe, such as:
- The EU Framework Programme;
- The societal impact and value of research;
- The European Research Area;
- Open Science; and
- EU legislation and regulations related to research.
- Experience working in a research funding or performing organisation, or a similar work environment.
Salary and Benefits
This position is full-time for three years and is based in Brussels.
Science Europe offers a competitive salary, in the range of €2,514 to €3,591 gross monthly salary, as well as benefits such as chèques repas (meal vouchers), 13th month (additional salary payment in December), hospital and group insurance. The salary offered within this range will be dependent on level of experience.
Please note that Science Europe is established under Belgian law, and that employment is within the Belgian tax and social security system.
Secondments from Science Europe Member Organisations are possible and encouraged.
