It was established to provide a comprehensive framework for evaluating the diverse contributions of researchers, ensuring that qualitative judgment plays a more prominent role alongside quantitative metrics. Over 700 organizations have committed to the vision of CoARA so far, concurring with the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment, which outlines the guiding principles for a more inclusive and effective assessment system. CoARA’s mission is to enable systemic reform through collaborative action, knowledge exchange, and mutual learning.

The Sustainable Careers for Researcher Empowerment (SECURE) project, an initiative funded by Horizon Europe, is stepping in to directly tackle this challenge by creating a comprehensive Research Career Framework (RCF), aimed at enhancing career sustainability across Europe. Implemented by a consortium of eighteen organisations, including active involvement from the MCAA, SECURE is set to reshape research career structures and foster a more supportive and stable environment for researchers.
