Change in Research Assessment through CoARA Boost - MCAA Magazine March 2025

CoARA is a global coalition of research organizations, funders, and professional societies dedicated to reforming research assessment. It was established to provide a comprehensive framework for evaluating the diverse contributions of researchers, ensuring that qualitative judgment plays a more prominent role alongside quantitative metrics. Over 700 organizations have committed to the vision of CoARA so far, concurring with the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment, which outlines the guiding principles for a more inclusive and effective assessment system. CoARA’s mission is to enable systemic reform through collaborative action, knowledge exchange, and mutual learning.

In 2024, the MCAA joined a coalition of European partners to implement the ambitious project “PAOLA: The Pandora box of whistleblowing in Academia”. This initiative highlights the MCAA’s commitment to fostering ethical practices and integrity within academic institutions.

The SECURE Project: Shaping Sustainable Research Careers - MCAA Magazine March 2025

The research landscape is at a pivotal moment. While scientific advancement propels innovation and societal growth, the real-life experience of many researchers is marked by uncertainty and instability. The Sustainable Careers for Researcher Empowerment (SECURE) project, an initiative funded by Horizon Europe, is stepping in to directly tackle this challenge by creating a comprehensive Research Career Framework (RCF), aimed at enhancing career sustainability across Europe. Implemented by a consortium of eighteen organisations, including active involvement from the MCAA, SECURE is set to reshape research career structures and foster a more supportive and stable environment for researchers.

MCAA & Citizen Science: Empowering Researchers - MCAA Magazine March 2025

European Citizen Science empowers researchers and the public to collaborate, making citizen science more inclusive and impactful. Through the Network of Researchers for Citizen Science and targeted workshops, the MCAA equips researchers with training, open resources and a dynamic network to integrate Citizen Science (CS) into their work.
