Sabina Cvecek

Sabina Cveček is an ordinary Board member of the MCAA and a socio-cultural anthropologist at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Her research brings together anthropology, archaeology, and ancient DNA to explore kinship and social life in prehistoric Anatolia and southeastern Europe. She co-edited the 2026 Cambridge Archaeological Journal special issue Kinship Trouble and authored Çukuriçi Höyük 4 (2022). Alongside her research, she serves on the board of the Coalition for Archaeological Synthesis, is a former co-chair of the European Association of Archaeologists’ Archaeology and Gender in Europe network, and is a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute. She has been involved with the MCAA North America Chapter since 2023, chaired the USA Chapter from 2024 to 2026, organised a regional event in Chicago in 2025, and contributed to the GEDI Working Group. She believes in bottom-up approaches to Community, Creativity, and Change and hopes to support these through collaboration and member-led initiatives within the MCAA.
