Hi Francesco,
I think you did a great job. So, let's continue with you.
I vote Francesco Sanna
Cheers,
Andrea
Thank you for your work Francesco for the last years. I really appreciate it. However, to give everyone a fair chance to consider this election and make a well-thought out decision, it would have been very helpful to receive this e-mail at least a week before.
I am nominate myself as a candidate for the chair of WG Networking and Event group. I also vote for myself.
As the first MCAA Alumni of the year (2014) awardee, I would like to represent this esteemed Alumni association in cooperation, expansion, further networking and future event organization. I retain close ties with Asia (my origin) and three European countries I studied in/worked with. I have close ties with other professional association (ACS, IEEE, RMS etc). I am also a founding member of MCAA Austrian Chapter and WG Networking and Event group. If elected, I would like to utilize these networks and bring together other researchers for closer cooperation and stronger scientific synergy.
If you want to know more about me, please visit my personal site: www.mmshawrav.com
I thank you for your time and kind consideration.
Best Regards,

Dear Mustafa,

Best regards,

Hello everyone,
I know I have not been very active, and I am sorry about it :S. I hope I can be a bit more useful in the upcoming years. Francesco, let me know if there is something I can do...
My vote for Francesco Sanna!
Hope to see you soon!
Besos,
María
Dear Mustafa,
New candidature are well accepted, of course.
Let me just say that your candidature shock me a bit. Francesco, with me and other members already organized 2 successful events and the third one is in progress. Moreover, Francesco contributed to other many activities during the last years and everything is recorded in the document that you can find in the E&N-WG web page.
Personally, I have been involved and I supported almost all of them and I am sorry to say that I never saw you involved and pro-active. Since that, let me say that I don't see the reason why you have to be the group leader, even considering all your worldwide network (that never has been used to support the purpose of the WG).
Please, take this critics just as my opinion. Nothing against you, of course.
Sincerely,
Andrea
Dear Andrea,
I thank you very much for your open criticism, something I always welcome from anyone.
In anywhere in my e-mail, did I say Francesco didn't do a good job?
Is that a pre-requisite for a new candidature?
If I understand correctly, and please correct me if I am wrong, your criticism seems to make the point that a new candidature has to be based on previous year's performance, otherwise, it must be "shocking". But I personally understood that anyone can be a candidate based on what he wants to do as a chair based on someone's intent and capability in the next period. But if it is based on only on previous year's performance, as you have pointed out, than nobody else should nominate himself for candidature and Francesco should be the chair forever.
Because I too agree that Francesco has done a good job. I would also like to point out a candidate wants to join an election because he wants to do something himself, not because the previous chair performed poorly. I hope you would take my opinion with the same openness and objectiveness, the same I have taken your criticism.
As for my own performance for last year, I had to stay in hospital with my family the greater part of 2015 and if you still have questions about why I was not so visible, please ask me in personal message. I would like to kindly remind you that I have contributed as much as I could during the initial proposal writing and was active beginning till personal tragedies started in December 2014 .
PS: May I kindly request to spell my name correctly, it’s Mostafa, not Mustafa.
Hi everybody!
I am very satisfied for the great work Francesco did.
I vote Francesco Sanna
Regards,
Giovanna
Hello everyone,
Neither me as María, I have not been very active, and I apologise.
Hopefully I might be helpful in the future.
My vote is for Francesco Sanna!

Thanks for your reply,Shikhar. Unfortunately, I am not in Venice now. However, I have posted my mission statement and ideas below in a comment. Please feel free to give your feedback. Have a nice GA in Venice
Hello everyboy,
I really believe that the rotation of positions should be important for such kind of association for involving people on the association activity. Nobody avoids people being active even without being chair of something. I think Francesco has done good job but I also agree with the reply that Mostafa gave to Andrea.
I know Mostafa since he is part of the Austrian Chapter that I have created. Mostafa has been very active within the chapter and always proactive, he helped me in organizing activities and I feel he could be a good chair of the WG. Since I already know him I I do not need anything else for supporting his candidature but as Shikkar wrote earlier I suggest Mostafa to write his proposal and ask to the people to read the proposals before voting.
My vote is for Mostafa but at the same time I would like to say thank you to Francesco for his activity and I wish good luck to both.
Last but not least, I suggest to prolong the period of elections (3 days during the weekend are not enough for the people to vote) and to send an email to all the MCAA members for advertising the elections.
Good luck
Riccardo
Dear members,
WG Networking and Event is a cooperative group. Each of our contribution is equally important. However, I believe a group can always use a leader who can make sure that each member is equally active and valued. With this believe, I would like to propose the following as my mission statement:
The group will be provided with a yearly program describing goal, task and responsibilities. The idea of implementing such a program is to keep everything transparent, efficient and participatory All members at the beginning of year, as well as throughout, is requested to put forward their own ideas, achievable goals, preferred responsibilities and expected task. With everyone’s input, responsibilities than will be delegated after open discussions and agreement. This way, each member can choose according to his/her convenience what he/she want to achieve for MCAA WG. It will also help everyone to evaluate and monitor our progress in a timely manner and provide assistance if necessary. I believe each member has his or her unique strength, innovative idea, personal network and special skill set that can really help advance the MCAA WG mission and vision. Following are some of my ideas for the yearly program:
1. I would like to, with the help of our members, facilitate creating MCAA chapters in countries where fellows are present but not yet organized.
2. Before any administrative and financial decision is made and or implemented, every possible measure will be taken to make sure that each and every member is well-informed and has enough time to offer his/her opinion. This could be done by having a specific date on the calendar for real-time participation.
3. Involvement of silent and sleeping members already part of MCAA with organization of topical forum, seminar, webinar etc.
4. Involvement of new MC Fellows with organization of co-funded workshops
5. Organize co-funded seminar, workshop, webinar with current and potential MCAA groups/members and other external organizations such as IEEE, MCFA etc. For example, as part of the MCAA Austrian chapter, I am now involved with the organization of career related seminar with IEEE Young Professionals. Each member’s personal network can be best utilize here.
Thank you very much to Shikhar and Riccardo for their valuable feedback and opinion. I tried to share some of my thoughts. Please feel free to give your opinion about it. I look forward to work with each and every one of you in the coming months. Thank you for your time.
According to the calculations (please, check again!), 9 people expressed interest in giving their own vote. 6 votes for Francesco Sanna, and 2 votes for Mostafa Moonir Shawrav.
If the calculations are correct, Francesco Sanna is renewed as chair of the E&N WG. If there is something wrong, please notify it by March 10th, 2016, 23.59 CET. After this date, the results will be communicated to the new board.
Regards,
March 8th, 2016.
Dear Francesco,
Ciao Afonso,
thanks for the feedback. Actually, you are right. However, the reason why it took so short is that I received a mail to set the elections as soon as possible.
At the moment, we are struggling with the organization of an event in Switzerland and we are also planning another event in Poland. People who are willing to cooperate are more than welcome!
Best,
Francesco
I´m sorry but I do not see this procedure neither fair nor regular. However this is how MCAA works from the beginning of its life.
Riccardo
I believe that people received many emails, one for each comment. People had the possibility to understand what was going on and read all the story. In 5 days, I believe people can say 'I vote for ...' . Simply, people who are busy or do not care about elections cannot be obliged to vote. What is it not regular? And why not fair?
What it can be suggested ifor the future is to have strict rules about the elections, maybe not managed by the working groups/chapter but by the contractor.
Francesco
Thanks Brian,
I personally believe the new board should urgently require an action as soon as possible and, if possible, the contractor should always take care of the elections.
I must admit that I also checked whether there was any particular requirement within the Statutes. Only at the article 10, the regulations about working groups and chapters are discussed. Regarding the election procedure, I quote the very end of that article : << Chairs of Chapters and Working Groups are to be elected from among the Ordinary Members of that Group or Chapter by simple majority vote. (See more at: https://www.mariecuriealumni.eu/statutes#sthash.Nkn0O7f5.dpuf) >>.
Now, I am asking myself why the procedure is not contained in the statute? And why is the document that you mentioneventually not available in the website? I think all these things have to be implemented and transparent to everyone. I will ask the contractor anyway.
Best regards,
Francesco
Dear everyone
I beleive that everyone has space in MCAA to do something for MCAA in a win-win situation. Nobody works under nobody and Chairs and Board are just facilitators to distribute MCAA funds and co-ordination. We should move on in good brotherhood and mutual collaboration to organize big events. I request Mostafa who has great links and network to kindly support the group in more active form. Take more responsibilities. Come forward. As Francesco said two big events are coming including Swiss and Poland, take the lead and be the Lion for the association.
Similarly, Riccardo, we need your experience and network. You are an entrenpreneur. We have worked together for association from the start. I have started discussion of one big task force: Branding and Marketing. Discussion is going on. Please support and be the Chair. During my ongoing 'job-less' days, I have crazy ideas coming that I put forward on website. If you find any idea good, please support. I have always worked from back doors, never applied for any Board position and believe that we have ability to innovate Gold out of Sand.
The budget of MCAA has been increased to Euros 300,000/- for coming session, everyone can apply their fancy ideas to get benefitted and in return benefit MCAA
Lets come together and shake hand and work for MCAA, work for ourselves.
I have not vote for this election. But I assume that it is over for this time. We can plan better for next time as Francesco's suggested.
Looking forward for collaborative efforts with everyone.
Forza MCAA!!!
Thank you very much.

Shikhar
Hi there,
I think Shikhar is right saying that we have to work ALL TOGETHER for the same purpose. MCAA is a very horizontal association and both Chairman and Board are only the reference point, while propositions have to come from the bottom!!!
Concerning the election procedure, we need to have a cleare "way to do" and I agree with the idea that we should plan a bit longer period to allow candidate to show his own "activity plan".
Let's work together guys!!!!
Cheers,
Andrea
I candidate my self as chair of the Events and Network WG. And I vote for myself. Francesco Sanna
