Dear all,this is time to...

2 min read Aug 22, 2014

Dear all, this is time to start working! The initial idea was to work in the geographic areas where chapters are NOT available. So far there are 8 chapters (Austrian, BeNeLux, Croatian, Israeli, Balear, Paris & Ile-de-France, Sicily, United Kindom). Last 18th July there was the deadlinefor the second call for new chapters. That would mean that in a while we will have few more! I would like to proceed in this way.

I suggest that each member of the Events and Networking Working Group finds and proposes three events (together with the expected dates in 2014 and 2015) in the area he is working in.

These events should be events where the MCAA can be presented in order to make people aware of its existence (events for science, job events). So far, MCAA was presented at ESOF in Copenhagen and it is going to be introduced at EIJO in Santiago de Compostela at the end of August. This is REALLY important if we want start (net)working and spreading our voice! Are you guys able to provide the three events together with the respective dates by the 1ST SEPTEMBER? Let's make it! Thank you guys, Francesco

Oh, I made a mistake.

The final question was : Are you guys able to provide the three events together with the respective dates by the 1st September?

Dear Francesco,

with the limited budget of chapters we are not able to be represented at big meetings and/or conferences even in the areas where the chapter is active (at least not in Austria). The Austrian chapter exists, but the budget does not allow for example to cover the costs to get an exhibitor place or to reserve a room for the EGU General Assembly.

In the austrian chapter proposal I suggested to participate to the EGU 2015 General Assembly which involves some 13000 researchers from all over the World (more than 100 countries) working on Geosciences and related topics (most of them young people, as usual in this kind of meetings). I think it could be a great advertisement for MCAA to be present there. Exhibitor places are quite expensive, but they could also be shared with some other action such as ERC. Otherwise we could reserve a room and ask to be present into the program as "Townhall meeting".

I hope you can consider this, even though we have an austrian chapter!

Thank you

Riccardo

Dear Riccardo,

Thank you for your reply. I was not talking about chapters. Chapters are different from Working Groups.

The idea of this working group was indeed to support chapters, trying to expand our voice in locations where chapters are not available.

By the first September it is importante to collect some important events. Out of the list, it will be made then a selection, according to the available money.

The selection will depend on :

1) is it possible to introduce the MCAA?

2) Is it worth to join that event?

3) Money needed to join the event ?

etc.

Of course, the final list should be checked by the board.

PLEASE, TRY TO COLLECT ALL THE EVENTS (AT LEAST THREE) BY THE FIRST SEPTEMBER, EITHER IN YOUR AREA OR NOT! :)

Hi to everybody,

Here I send my list of events in France (my working area) and Spain (where I am originary, and I know quite well it).

My list does also include meetings which are not super-big. I think that maybe would be easier to go there by spending a minimal amount of money.:

In Bordeaux (where I work):

MitoBrain: Mitochondrial Functions and Dysfunctions in the Central Nervous System (MitoBrain) - October 1 - 3, 2014

researchers of my own Institute in the organization comitee

http://brainconf.u-bordeaux.fr/en/

Web not available ye.

·  ITC for Imaging The Cell - June 24-26, 2015

·  SMLMS for Single Molecule Light Microscopy Symposium - August 26-28, 2015

Not in my living area:

EMBO meeting: Birmingham 5-8 september 2015 (this is quite big and potentially really interesting to get a lot of people)

Where I come from:

XI Simposio de Investigadores Jóvenes RSEQ - Sigma Aldrich, Bilbao, Spain 4-7 November 2014

http://www.ehu.es/es/web/xi-sij

Quite interesting as it is a good target audience

CRG meeting

6-7 november 2014 BCN, Spain.

Hi,

I suggest following conferences from Germany, UK and France. There will be average 3000 people in each conferences. So, those might be a very good opportunity to reach bigger audience.

1. Microscopy Conference, Gottingen : http://www.mc2015.de/

2. Microscience Microscopy Conference: www.mmc2014.org.uk/about/about-rms/mmc2015/ (

3. E-MRS Spring Meeting: www.emrs-strasbourg.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=800&Itemid=1652

3 European conferences

40th FEBS Congress.

http://www.febs2015.org/

EUROMAR 2015  European congress on magnetic resonance spectroscopy

http://www.euromar2015.org/welcome/home.htm

EBSA 2015 | 10th European Biophysics

http://www.ebsa2015.com/

In some of these conferences one can already find ERC or EC programs... maybe we could discuss with them a possible presence together, that would decrease the budget to be present.

Best

Afonso

Thank you for the events you have proposed so far. You have time until the end of today to propose more. Please, keep in mind that the events should be suitable for the objectives of the MCAA.

Hi guys,

first of all, thank you for he collaboration. It was really nice that you are really active.

I have just prepared a list of all the 25 events collected in the previous days. By the way, I am going to propose the list of events to the board and discuss which should be the gender of events we should focus on. I will update as soon as I receive some news from the board side.

Best regards,

Francesco
