Vitae runs the EURAXESS Career Development Centre for the UK - a virtual service centre for researcher career development.
This Career Development Centre does not offer individual support but is open to be contacted with questions about the site or how to access support services. UK institutions are leaders in the provision of career development services for researchers. When you consider your career or professional development you might think about developing new research techniques, presenting at conferences or publishing your work. You might think about looking for a new job or working towards the next promotion. However, career development should also be about taking a step back to look at where you're going and how you might get there.

I posted this mainly to provoke a debate about career development training in non-English speaking countries. Most Universities have career guidance services but mainly aimed at undergraduates and most often in the native language of that particular country. The working language of most of our members is English and not the language of the country they live in. We also have many members working for employers without any career development services: in industry or in smaller research institutes.
Vitae provide a virtual service for individual researchers based in the UK. The barriers to accessing career development services are much lower in the UK anyway. We need such services throughout mainland Europe. My opinion is that the MCAA can focus on this gap in the market to provide high-quality English-language career services specific to mobile researchers throughout Europe.
