Meeting at the University of Bielefeld and online: "Women in Chemistry: Empowering Passionate Scientists Colloquium"

An event on 30th October organised by Marie Curie Alumna Dr. Véronica Dodero dedicated to honoring the achievements, challenges, and aspirations of women in chemistry

Promoting females into leadership roles in chemical research is not just about a gender issue — it is about equity, fairness, and opening science to the strength of diversity, which leads to more creative and impactful discoveries.

Our Colloquium takes us through history, impact, and ambition. We begin with insights from Prof. Dr. Carsten Reinhardt, a historian, who will reflect on the evolving role of women in chemistry and the systemic barriers they have faced - and often overcome. The Autobiographies series, Lives in Chemistry (LiC), will then be presented by Dr. Eva E. Wille, offering a glimpse into the remarkable stories behind scientific discoveries and the individuals who shaped the field. Next, we celebrate the groundbreaking work of Prof. Dr. Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus, a pioneering female scientist in the field of combustion, whose career has opened doors and sparked change. And finally, we hear from Dr. María Georgina Herrera, a junior scientist working to start her independent career, offering a personal and inspiring perspective on what it means to be a female scientist today.

Together, these voices remind us that empowering women in chemistry means recognizing excellence and fostering a lasting culture of support, visibility, and opportunity. By reflecting on the past, celebrating the present, and encouraging future leadership, we take meaningful steps toward a more inclusive and dynamic scientific community for all passionate scientists.
