Payment of Doctoral fees once the ESR contract is over

I'd like to know what are you doing regarding the payment of the university fees when the ESRs have finished their contract and PI extends their contract with other funds to complete their PhD. In your opinion, is it still mandatory to pay for their doctoral courses? Could you please tell me what do you do?

Hello Laia,
As soon as the 36-month contract is over, it is not mandatory to pay the university fees. However, it is a good practice to continue paying the fees if the ESR has his/her contract extended. In my case, the two ESRs recruited in my organisation had their contract extended and we paid their university fees. I would recommend to pay.
But you mention both university fees and doctoral courses...
