Piirus.ac.uk survey on career pathways post-PhD
MCAA recently had a consultative role in a survey on the development of researchers' careers after PhD.
piirus.ac.uk and jobs.ac.uk are conducting a survey on career pathways for people doing or having completed a doctoral study. They are seeking to see what career options researchers take up within and outside academia. You can tell them about your experience at: https://blog.piirus.ac.uk/2016/11/09/hyper-competition-academia/

Dear Nina,
jobs.ac.uk collect data on which jobs get viewed and applied for most. The Humanities is by far the most competitive discipline based on these two criteria and the Social Sciences is a close second. For more details check page 14 of this presentation: http://www.agcas.org.uk/assets/download?file=5753&parent=2093
We are talking to jobs.ac.uk about exhibiting or presenting at a careers session at the GA.
Warm regards,
Brian

Dear all,
as I have mentioned many times before - for us in Humanities and Social Sciences is very difficult or even impossible to find a job outside the Academia.
This survey is important - but please have in mind that aprox. 80% of MCF are from Natural/Tech Science. At to answer their question: yes - too much PhD and very rare positions. This we should really discuss on the upcoming GA Assembly in Salamanca.
As a MCF from Croatia yesterday we have also received a survey about the state in the Central Europe - as somebody call that "Western Balkan" (although i strongly dissagree on the geographical term). Please take a minute also to fill this survey if you are a current Fellow from Central/East part of Europe.

Thank you!
