The Genders, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (GEDI) Working Group of MCAA (former Gender Equality and Diversity for Mobile Researchers in Science Working Group) has been active since 2014. In the past years, the WG has been moving from a specific focus on enhancing the inclusion of women in research to a broader scope: promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in research beyond any individual characteristic. Among the primary goals of the WG is to investigate challenges and develop possible solutions in order to boost equity, diversity, and inclusion at all research career stages – from early stages towards leadership levels. Another goal is to ensure that MCAA itself stands for and implements fair treatment of any underrepresented group in all our activities.

GEDI WG has organized several workshops, seminars, and conference sessions and collaborated with several organizations with similar goals. Its current and future activities aim to reach a broader audience and engage more people, including policymakers, to participate in the debate for equal opportunities in career development and for a healthier work-life balance.

Families and Mobility: Geographical and Cultural challenges
Researchers in academia/industry are more likely to delay family planning. Thus, professional development is often in conflict with the strong desire for personal plans, including family planning and parenthood. There has been a positive movement towards equity of opportunity around family planning. However, recent studies show that attention is still needed to tackle existing problems, such as childcare costs and struggle of keeping a career in research. We will build upon the themes of Issues and Action to find equity, mapping different geographical/cultural challenges for mobile researchers.

The event will cover some of the most critical problems and the possible strategies to address these issues through (i) building awareness and empowerment (ii) mapping different national approaches (iii) motivating changes in current employer policies

2nd Conference of the Researcher Mental Health Observatory (ReMO 2023)
THEME: "Evidence-Based Interventions for Fostering Healthy Academic Workplaces"

The ReMO COST Action focuses on wellbeing and mental health within academia, a theme of strategic importance for the European Research Area and beyond. We would like to invite our fellow researchers and practitioners to critically think about reporting on Evidence-Based Interventions for Fostering Healthy Academic Workplaces. How can stakeholders in the research environment develop interventions tackling this challenge in a rapidly changing world? We therefore hope for an inspiring conference with presentations, workshops and keynotes that will not only showcase the newest findings about the cognitive, motivational, and emotional aspects of Researcher Mental Health and Well-being, but will also be a place to discuss the global challenges that shape the present and will define the future of our research workplaces.

The conference will be a hybrid conference within the context of the ReMO COST Action with free online participation and in-person attendance at the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary.
