66th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting: PHYSICS, 26th June to 1st July 2016
At the Lindau meeting 2016 more than 400 young scientists from all over the world will get the unique chance to spend an inspiring week with about 40 Nobel Laureates to exchange experiences and establish valuable contact in science and beyond. Like in the past years, the European Commission will nominate a limited number of Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellows to participate at this meeting. Before applying, please read carefully the selection criteria below.
In addition, it is important you make sure that you will have the necessary funding to meet your part of the costs at the time of the event, which is 1,250 EUR plus your own travel costs to and from the meeting.Please note that the related costs must be met by your host and/or through your Marie Skłodowska-Curie project. We strongly recommend that you get a confirmation from your host that these costs can be and will be met at the appropriate time (ca. June 2016).
APPLICATION PROCESS
The process is a two-step procedure. At the first stage you should submit three items:1) a statement of motivation: this should explain briefly why you think the participation will be beneficial for you, your research and your career, and your host organisation (if relevant). At most ½ page, 250 words is requested; 2) a letter or letters of recommendation: this should be from a highly qualified scientist who is either in a supervisory role in your project; or who maybe well acquainted with your work; or who is a leading scholar in the field and sufficiently knowledgeable about you. At most this should be one page and contain the formal letterhead of the organisation of the person signing the letter. Please ensure the letter of recommendation is specific for you and for the Lindau 2016 event; 3) your current CV.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Fellows shall:
- not be older than 35 years of age (we are however willing to consider applications from researchers who are a little bit older and had some breaks during their career such as maternity or paternity leaves);
- show a genuine interest in science and research;
- show strong commitment to their principal field of studies and to interdisciplinary work;
- receive strong support of their application by their academic advisor/or by internationally renowned scientists, through a detailed letter of recommendation;
- be fluent in English and capable of active participation in discussions;
- belong to the top 5 percent of their class;
- not have participated in previous Lindau meetings;
- commit themselves to being present for the full duration of the meeting;
- not already have a permanent position, e.g., on the professor level.

TIMETABLE
You need to send all parts of your application to the European Commission by Wednesday, 14th October 2015, 17:00 CET to EAC-LINDAU-2016@ec.europa.eu
The European Commission will make recommendations to the Lindau Committee in the week of the 19th of October 2015.
Candidates who are supported by the European Commission are asked in the second stage to complete and validate some further formalities by the 7th December 2015 and selection decisions are taken by the end of February 2016, allowing sufficient time for travel arrangements to be made.
