“Rebuilding Bridges”

Special Issue of the MCAA Newsletter (ISSN 2663-9483)

To be published in December 2021

During the past year and a half we faced an unprecedented set of circumstances. The pandemic has reshaped society in countless ways. Although individual experiences and the current situation still differ drastically around the world, we are all united in the desire to move on, and to reclaim our freedom. As we embark on this journey forward, it is important to reflect back on the (socioeconomic) changes the pandemic has brought to our lives. We need to consider how we can use them to our advantage while rebuilding the bridge to our new normal.

What are the positive changes in our routines, roles, priorities and responsibilities that the COVID pandemic has allowed to reprioritise? What habits, patterns and long-awaited changes were enabled or speeded up? Which of these do we want to keep? Which are distant reminiscences of a past that no longer reflects our needs?

The 2021 Special Issue of the MCAA Newsletter will be published in December and will be dedicated to our transition to a post-pandemic world. The Special Issue will focus on the new capabilities that researchers need to face a digital future. It will also delve into the changes that have been incorporated into researchers’ daily routine and which are here to stay long after the pandemic. In a nutshell, the Special Issue will revolve around “The Great Reset”, the theme adopted by the World Economic Forum.

To reflect upon those changes, we are launching an Open Call for articles addressed to all MCAA members. If you think that you can share a story, an opinion or a clear vision on how the pandemic has changed your field, role or career, we encourage you to do so in this Special Issue.

The process has two stages:

1. All MCAA members are invited to submit their pitches (max 150 words) exclusively via the form provided below by 15 September 2021.

Online form submission for articles

2. All submissions will be evaluated by the Editorial Team and selected authors will be contacted in mid-September to communicate the follow-up actions for the submission of a full article (750-1500 words).
