grant extension PhD fellowships

1 min read Jan 27, 2017

Hello guys,

Do you have any thoughts regarding a salary extension beyond the 36-months in a ITN PhD fellowship for example to cover a thesis writing-up period?

Thanks.

Best,

Marco

Hey Marco,

Definitely. Everybody is aware of the high pressure in publishing during the PhD. Often wet lab doesn´t work as planned even with plans B, C and D and often "you" are dependent on the host institution to extend your time there with a common scholarship till you are finished or have simply no more funding and try to work out with what you have. I believe there should be an evaluation panel to evaluate such cases and grant the students with some extra time, even 6 months to 1 year, and even if on a reduced value/month, so that you are not taking the risk of writing a thesis with not enough quality content as it should be the case of MCAA alumnis (in my opinion).

Parameters such as public engagement activities, project barriers, institutional evaluations and recomendation letters from supervisors could be evaluated by such a panel for this extension.

Just a thought...thanks for bringing the question up.
