Seeking your support for my candidature as an ORDINARY BOARD MEMBER
Dear MCAA Family Members,
I seek your support for my candidature as an ORDINARY BOARD MEMBER. Here is my experience and expertise which I will bring with your support as a Board Member.
Brief About Me:
I am working as an Assistant Professor at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (IACS), Kolkata. I did my PhD from the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, followed by postdoctoral research at ISOM, UPM Madrid, Spain, as a Marie Curie Fellow. I am an Editorial Board Member of Materials Letters (Elsevier) and Nanotechnology (IOP) Journals. I am also a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NASI), India and Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS). My research contribution covers a broad spectrum of Materials Science, including III-V semiconductors, 2D-Materials, MXenes, Carbon Nanostructures, etc., for various energy harvesting (PEC water splitting, CO2 reduction, Broadband photodetectors) & storage (Supercapacitors) applications. I have authored 92 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, filed 03 patents, more than 75 in conference proceedings, 09 books/chapters, and delivered around 52 invited talks around the globe. I am the recipient of several recognized awards and fellowships, including Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships 2022, MRSI Medal 2021, MCAA Societal Impact Award (2019), DAE Young Achiever Award (2019), Micro Internal Travel Grants (MITG), European Commission (2018), BRICS Young Scientist Award (2017), INSPIRE Faculty Award (2014), Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (2012), etc.About my journey with MCAA Family:
I joined MCAA a decade ago as a member of the Spain-Portugal Chapter and participated actively in the chapter activities from 2012-to 2015. Later, after coming back to India, I found that the Indian Chapter was not active at all. I took the charge of Indian Chapter as a Chair in May 2017 with only 28 members. With my active leadership and also creative vision, the Indian chapter is now the sixth largest chapter (with 360 members) of the MCAA globally. Most of the chapter members are active and do participate in the chapter activities frequently. My efforts were recognized by MCAA with the prestigious SOCIAL IMPACT AWARD 2019. https://mariecuriealumni.eu/mcaa-awards
My vision for the MCAA is based on the following three main points:
- Bridge the gap between MCAA Members: We as MCAA members are not much aware of us and the expertise we carry at this one of the most knowledgeable associations globally. I would start a few of the flagship events, where the main motivation will be to know each other so to establish more networking. I would also utilize my experience to connect like-minded MCAA members for interdisciplinary collaborative research.
- Mental Helth and counselling: This one is one of my main agendas for new MCAA fellows or those who do not have the expected progress in their research due to several unavoidable reasons. I will start a few webinars or seminars (online/offline) in connection with the local chapters, so to reach all the MCAA members, who really need counselling to come out from their issues.
- Networking with other National Academies: To get a better impact as an MCAA member, I would work delicately to network the MCAA with the National Young Academies of most of the countries and also with the Global Young Academy. Also, I would use my experience, to get much attention from the European Commission as far as policy matters and pannel experts are concerned.
I have also a vision to make MCAA finically independent. I will put my efforts to increase the active participation of the MCAA members in various activities. Further, I will also share my experience to strengthen the various chapters/working group relation with EU delegations, Euraxess, National Funding Agencies globally, National Scientific Societies and National Institutes/Labs and will also deliberate with the EU policymakers to discuss the possible options after the Marie Curie fellowship tenure.
If given a chance as an ORDINARY BOARD MEMBER, I can assure you that I will take care of your suggestions and also utilize my past leadership experience with MCAA Indian Chapter Chair, to make MCAA more visible and reachable higher heights.
Looking forward to your support.
With regards
-Praveen
