USA - Salary not aligned with cost of life

On

Hello everyone,

I m currently in San Diego for the outgoing phase of my fellowship, before returning to France.

The CNRS is paying me 2850 euros per month, after taxes, which does not match cost of life in California. I am paid less than the graduate students in my lab.

In addition, the recent crash of euro is increasing this issue, so I was wondering if some of you had contacted official MSCA representent, or CNRS for those based in France (I however assume this is a common problem to all fellows with an outgoing phase in an expansive US city).

I think we should let them know that using a single indicator for all US does not represent the highly variable cost of life between states and cities. Additionally, a mechanism to adjust salaries in case of major currency change (20% for euro dollar) would be ideal, although I guess hard to implement.

Please share your opinion and let's see, if enough people are encountering the same issues we could write them a letter?

All the best,
