Join us for the UN CSW70 Virtual Parallel Event - Advancing Gender-Responsive Justice: Regional Perspectives and Pathways Forward

Access to justice is a cornerstone of gender equality, democratic governance, and sustainable peace. Despite normative progress at global and national levels, women and girls continue to face systemic barriers to justice, including discriminatory laws and practices, weak enforcement, economic exclusion, technology-facilitated violence, and under-representation in justice and decision-making institutions.
The 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) focuses on “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers.” This parallel event responds directly to the priority theme by grounding global commitments in regional realities, while fostering cross-organizational dialogue and accountability.

MCAA GEDI Working Group is joining the conversation in this event organised by the International Federation for Business and Professional Women with Magda Theodoridou, MCAA GEDI Task Force lead as Moderator and Jen Elmaco, MCAA GEDI Chair as one of the Panelists.

16 March 15:30 - 17:00 CET over Zoom.

Researchers Meet Entrepreneurs

A full-day event where researchers will be introduced to the know-how of starting their Entrepreneurship journey!

We'll explore the world beyond the lab together - because publishing and patenting your research is just the beginning.

This event is designed to open doors to the entrepreneurial opportunities that most researchers never knew were within their reach, connecting you with the people, programmes, and mindset to take your research towards the commercial route.

During the day, we'll hear from experts in EU and regional funding, innovation support, and tech commercialization, followed by real success stories from former researchers who took the leap and built their own ventures. We'll wrap up with hands-on networking over coffee and an informal networking event where participants will have the chance to talk to those entrepreneurs one to one, the perfect setting to connect beyond the formalities.

Whether you're curious about entrepreneurship, looking to explore what's possible with your research, or simply want to meet a community of like-minded researchers and innovators, this is the day for you.

The event is organised by the MCAA BSB Working Group, Communication WG, and Spain-Portugal Chapter, in collaboration with ACCIO, CRG, RMIT Europe, and Barcelona Activa.

Around the World Webinar - The EU's Fifth Freedom goal: Science in and for Europe

The European Union's proposed "Fifth Freedom" that is the free circulation of knowledge, researchers, and innovation, represents a landmark ambition to complete the Single Market by addressing the longstanding fragmentation that continues to constrain European science. Building on the ongoing reforms to the European Research Area (ERA), this initiative seeks to dismantle persistent barriers to cross-border mobility, harmonise career conditions, and create a more coherent and competitive research landscape across Member States.

In this webinar, Thomas Sturm (Professor ICREA & Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Member of Academia Europaea) explores the historical and policy foundations of the Fifth Freedom, unpacking its scientific and democratic rationale and what it means in practice for the research community.

The session bridges high-level EU policy developments with their concrete implications for researchers, from funding opportunities and career progression to administrative burdens and international collaboration.

Participants will get a clearer understanding of how these policy shifts may reshape mobility, working conditions, and research funding across Europe. The webinar will also offer practical guidance on how researchers and MCAA members can actively contribute to shaping the ERA, through policy consultations, science diplomacy, and engagement with EU institutions.

Whether you are early in your career or an experienced researcher navigating the European science landscape, this session offers both the context and the tools to engage with one of the most significant developments in EU science policy today.
