Communication Assistant (Social Media Officer and Copywriter) (Remote position) (Closed)

Job description:

The Social Media Officer and Copywriter will be responsible for efficiently planning and implementing the social media activities of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), including, but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement, together with the Communication Manager and Communication Officer, a cohesive social media strategy across all the MCAA social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, and YouTube; other social media might be adopted in the future).
  • Create, curate, manage, and optimise content for the Association’s social media and other digital channels (e.g., newsletters, blogs, and website).
  • Ensure brand consistency in style, quality, and tone of voice.
  • Manage social media campaigns, including paid advertising, and devise creative initiatives to engage MCAA members and other stakeholders.
  • Provide monthly reports on social media activities.
  • Align social media activity with the other MCAA communication outlets (MCAA Newsletters, Irradium Magazine, MCAA Blog, MCAA Books, the Curi(e)ous Minds podcast).
  • Support the preparation of the MCAA communication and dissemination plan, especially from the point of view of social media and content.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient workflow and smooth operations.
  • Support for the devising and implementation of the communication campaign and material for the MCAA Annual Conference.
  • Support the proofreading and editing of articles in the MCAA Newsletter, IRRADIUM magazine, and the Blog.
  • Support the proofreading and editing of press releases, deliverables, reporting documents, and internal documents.


The Social Media Officer and Copywriter will report to the Communication Manager and work closely with the Communication Officer to contribute to the Association's effective communication strategy.

What we expect:

  • A graduate qualification or proven experience in communication.
  • Proven top-level skills in writing in English for both general audiences (though still high-level style public outreach texts) and professional/institutional audiences.
  • Fair knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to proficiently interact with the Association’s Graphic Designer.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media posting, planning, and management (especially LinkedIn and X).
  • Experience working with social media content scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite).
  • Proven experience in managing social media.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good knowledge of Monday.com (or similar applications). 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • The readiness to join an international virtual team.
  • C1 level in English is required.
  • Available to work during Western European working hours.
  • Possibility to travel, generally within the EU, to MCAA Annual conferences (once a year) and conferences/meetings that are relevant to the Association (roughly three times a year). 


Will be considered as advantages: 

  • C2 level in English.
  • Experience in social media advertising and digital marketing.
  • A person residing in Belgium or willing to relocate to Belgium, if necessary
  • Proven significant experience with the work, channels, and outlets of the MCAA Communication Working Group.


What we offer:

  • The MCAA service contract as a freelancer until 30 December 2024 (trial period) with a high possibility of long-term renewal.
  • Compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, with a daily (8 working hours) gross rate ranging from 120 to 140 Euros. A correction coefficient may apply depending on the geopolitical location.
  • The position is expected to be full-time, approximately 20 days/month, resulting in a commitment of roughly 40 hours a week.
