The Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) expresses its support for the public statement issued by members of the Albanian academic diaspora in solidarity with the peaceful citizen protests in Albania.
Albania has been facing an unprecedented wave of protests over the past three weeks. The latter was triggered by a real estate development project for a tourism complex led by Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
However, the uprising hides a different reality and expresses a deeper exhaustion of the governance system and growing social fatigue among citizens. Members of the Albanian academic diaspora recently issued a public statement in solidarity with the peaceful citizen protests in Albania.
In this document, they express concerns about the current state of the Albanian research and innovation ecosystem, which is characterised by chronic underinvestment, weakened standards of academic integrity, and a lack of a long-term vision for knowledge as a strategic public good.
The MCAA published a letter to support this statement. As a global network of more than 24,000 members across over 155 countries, the Association remains committed to supporting the Albanian academic diaspora in fostering a knowledge-based society that prioritises education, research, and innovation.
