Marie Curie Forum × Oxford Forum: 2026 Spring Special
Focus: FinTech and Corporate Innovation
Event Background
Against the backdrop of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and digital platform technologies are reshaping the operational mechanisms of financial systems and corporate innovation models. FinTech, represented by Large Language Models (LLMs) and intelligent algorithms, has not only significantly enhanced information processing efficiency and decision support capabilities but is also restructuring corporate risk appetite, innovation incentive mechanisms, and the logic of capital allocation.
FinTech has evolved from a simple technical tool into critical infrastructure influencing corporate strategic choices, innovative behavior, and market structure. However, as algorithms play an increasingly pivotal role in financial decision-making and corporate governance, their ethical boundaries, risk appetite formation mechanisms, and impacts on innovation vitality and long-term economic efficiency remain subjects requiring deep theoretical exploration and empirical research.
To respond to these frontier issues, the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) China Chapter, in collaboration with the Zhongguancun Unicorn Enterprise Development Alliance and the Oxford Chinese Students and Scholars Association (OXCSSA), is proud to launch the "Marie Curie Forum × Oxford Forum" Spring Special in the spring of 2026. Focusing on "FinTech and Corporate Innovation," we have specially invited heavyweight guests from both academia and industry to engage in deep exchange and intellectual collision regarding AI-driven financial decision-making, venture capital, and corporate innovation.

Presentation Title: AI as a Decision Maker: Ethics and Risk Preferences of Large Language Models
Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) exhibit diverse and stable risk preferences in economic decision-making tasks, yet the causes of these differences remain unclear. Based on a study of 50 LLMs, we find that alignment tuning centered on harmlessness, helpfulness, and honesty systematically increases the models' risk aversion. For every 10% increase in ethical score, risk appetite decreases by approximately 2% to 8%. This introduced caution persists across different prompts and affects economic forecasting. Consequently, while alignment enhances safety, it may also suppress valuable risk-taking, revealing a trade-off that could lead to suboptimal economic outcomes. Our research framework provides an adaptable and long-term benchmark for continuously tracking model risk preferences and this emerging trade-off relationship.

Presentation Title: Research on Collusive Behavior Between Venture Capitalists and Entrepreneurs Based on Personal Relationships
Abstract: In the development of venture capital (VC), there are numerous issues that cannot be ignored, including "collusive behavior" between venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. Specifically, collusive behavior in VC activities refers to improper conduct where VCs and entrepreneurs seek personal gain at the expense of minority shareholder interests, thereby increasing corporate operational risk. Collusive behavior not only misleads investors into making erroneous decisions but also reduces the positive impact of venture capital on innovation and entrepreneurial activities. Therefore, identifying and governing collusive behavior between VCs and entrepreneurs, and mitigating its adverse effects, are issues worthy of attention and discussion in both theory and practice.
Combining the principal-agent relationship in VC activities with the "Differential Mode of Association" (Cha Xu Ge Ju) characteristic of Chinese social networks, this paper focuses on collusive behavior from the perspective of personal relationships, utilizing Social Identity Theory, Social Exchange Theory, and Pro-relational Unethical Behavior Theory. By comprehensively analyzing the impact of personal relationships on collusion, as well as the formation mechanisms and corporate governance measures for relationship-based collusion, this study provides a decision-making basis for enterprises and governments to prevent and govern such behavior. Centering on these research contents, the paper proposes hypotheses through theoretical reasoning and deductive induction. Using Chinese GEM (Growth Enterprise Market) listed companies supported by venture capital from 2009 to 2021 as a sample, empirical methods are used to verify the hypotheses. Based on the conclusions, relevant suggestions are proposed for the prevention of collusion and corporate governance under the influence of personal relationships.
