Communicating Science: How to design an effective PowerPoint presentation

All of us sooner or later in our careers will have to create some slides, either for a meeting with our supervisors or for a conference. But how can we do it effectively? How many times have you attended a conference and found that the slides used by the speaker were difficult to follow or boring?
This intensive workshop will provide you with practice knowledge about some dos and don'ts on how to design a catchy PowerPoint presentation that will engage your audience.
This online half-day full-immersion and interactive workshop delivered by the MCAA aims to improve your understanding of how to use PowerPoint efficiently and make effective presentations which will gain the interest of your audience.
The goals of the workshop are:
- improve your skills on planning efficiently the structure of your presentation
- understand the key functions of PowerPoint and how to best use them
- master how to engage the audience with a catchy stylelearn how to highlight your key messages within every single slide and how to create a story
Once selected, participants will be asked to submit ahead of time a real PPT presentation they delivered at a conference. The trainers will analyze them before the workshop, and then use them as examples during the workshop.
The training will be guided by Ruben Riosa and Nicoleta Spinu, chair of vice-chair of the MCAA Communication WG, who have an extensive knowledge in Science Communication and effective communication.
The training workshop is open to both MCAA members and non-MCAA members.
In order to make it as interactive as possible and provide personalized feedback, the workshop is limited to only 20 participants. The selection of participants will be done on a rolling basis, until all 20 seats are filled.
The registration fee is 75 EUR for MCAA members and 100 EUR for non-MCAA members.
The deadline for registration is 20 April 2023.
Payment of the registration must be done by bank transfer. Once selected, participants will receive a confirmation email with instructions about payment.
Once their applications have been accepted, participants will receive a notification by email and will have up to 7 (seven) days to complete payment.
