The MCAA is looking for an Editor-in-Chief (volunteer position)

We are searching for an Editor-in-Chief to lead and manage the development of the MCAA Newsletter and the IRRADIUM magazine. This is an unpaid volunteer position.

The MCAA Newsletter and the IRRADIUM magazine are our key publications for sharing news and insights about the association and the European research, innovation, and science policy landscape. They target our international alumni community and relevant stakeholders, such as other research associations and the European Commission's MSCA unit. The publications are designed and developed by the MCAA Editorial Board, an international team of around 10 volunteer members led by the Editor-in-Chief.
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board are supported by the MCAA Communications Team and Graphic Designer.
This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Joining the Editorial Board is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and further your skills in writing, intercultural communication, teamwork, and project management.

Responsibilities:
- Organisation and management of the production of the MCAA Newsletter & IRRADIUM magazine (with the support of the MCAA Communications Team)
- Leading an international team of around 10 editors
- Leading monthly online meetings with the editorial board
- Supervising the writing of articles for the newsletter and magazine
- Editing and proofreading articles
- Revising the visual layout and design of the newsletter and magazine
- Writing the editorials for each newsletter and magazine issue and additional articles about the MCAA community as needed
Requirements:
- MCAA membership
- Experience in writing journalistic articles for a non-specialist audience
- Good project management skills
- Good organisational skills
- Availability of approximately 6-8 hours a week during publication seasons (the MCAA Newsletter is published quarterly, and the IRRADIUM magazine once a year) and 2-5 hours a week during low season
Will be considered advantages:
- Previous experience as part of the MCAA Editorial Board
- Previous experience from the MCAA Communication Working Group
- Familiarity with the workings of the MCAA community and the EU research, innovation and policy sectors
- Experience in multicultural communications
