Coordination of 3D printer database in Spain

2 min read Mar 19, 2020
Hi,
The University of Galway is coordinating a network to mobilize 3D printers in Europe to provide parts in anticipation of the next wave of COVID-19 and the supply chain crash. We are starting to collect information on available 3D printers in SPAIN. Please contact me (j.birkenfeld@io.cfmac.csic.es) if you are interested in registering your printer!!
If you are interested in the type of printing that is currently done to help out, check out this article: https://www.3dprintingmedia.network/covid-19-3d-printed-valve-for-reanimation-device/
Thank you!!
Judith

Thank you! The coordinators of this initiative are Martina Ferracane (Italy), Stijn de Mil (Spain), and Martin Leahy (Ireland). I am just helping them out :)

I have created a text in case someone would like to follow your great example and send this info out to any email list server:

The University of Galway (Martin Leahy), with european partners in Italy (Martina Ferracane) and Spain (Stijn de Mil)  are coordinating a network to mobilize 3D printers and designers/makers in Europe to provide urgently needed parts for hospitals during the #COVID-19 crisis. We are now starting to collect information on available 3D printers and available Makers specifically in SPAIN. If you have any resources, please fill out the following forms:

Requests for help in design, drawing and submission of CAD files for 3D printing:

If you want to check out a brilliant example on current 3D printing for hospitals, here is the open source Venturi's valve from Filip Kober (https://grabcad.com/library/respirator-free-reanimation-venturi-s-valve-1/details?folder_id=8017467).

Thank you for any help!!

Dear all,

in the name of the organizers, thank you to everyone who supported this project! We have gotten many responses (especially from the contacted universities) within few days. Special thanks to Asunción López Varela Azcárat, Lidia Natalia Trusilewicz, and Tanya Romacho for the immediate support.

I hope it gives a bit of an uplift that, in a time of uncertainty, there are always people helping out people.

All the best and stay safe,

Judith

It probably doesn't help in the coordination of Spanish activities, but if you want to pass this information along to the coordinators of the project, the Department of Civil Engineering of Aalbor University has 3D printer, that might be used in this project.

Hi Guilherme,

thanks for the reply! The easiest way to get this information to the organizers is to register devices here:

3D printing facilities, design and drawing expertise:

https://forms.gle/BuMNsjYV6GMPwUcXA

They organize european-wide, and the physcical location of the printer is registered, so that they can be used on demand.

Have a good weekend,

Judith

Thanks Guilherme. The problem is to send the equiment made to Spain.

I suggest you start exploring the possibilities in case the COVID-19 reaches nearer to where you are. Perhaps you might be able to help Germany, whose numbers are also increasing.

we are having huge difficulties to provide equipment to doctors and nurses in Spain, and as the virus spreads to other countries, things could become difficult there too.

I have just heard my brother in law in Ireland might be infected. There are hardly no cases in Ireland yet, but this may mean that they have not shown up yet. My brother in law works in a busy shopping arcade area.

In other words, take precautions just in case it can come closer to where you are.

All best

Asun

p/s today the number of dead in Spain is almost 5000 in three weeks. Italy 7000 in four weeks. This is how it goes once it starts.

Thank you for your suggestion Asunción

I hope your brother in law is recovering well, or fully recovered by now.

I am in Portugal now, so I can't do much, because we too are facing dire situation with lack of medical supplies. I was only hoping that perhaps there could be some possibility of people in Denmark, where the situation is more under control, could be contacted to step up and cooperate in this effort.

Let us all continue to do our best to keep the damage caused by this virus to a minimum

Best,

Gui

Dear Judith,

Dear all,

I could confirm other than mentioned here Spanish universitities organising on their own with this topic too these days (RESET of UPM for instance, but not only)! Also there are some individual actions from the part of private entities, especially on the social media. An inititative to share along the affected parts of the world (by now) indeed!

Stay safe all of you!
