Researchers’ Night Braunschweig 2015

The German Chapter invites members to take part in Researchers' Night in Braunschweig on 25th September 2015. Researchers' Night is a Marie Curie Action for promoting awareness of research among the general public. The Haus der Wissenchaft Braunschweig is organizing the only event in Germany this year. The German chapter is very interested in participating in future Researchers' Night proposals.

An EU Corner with EU Quiz and information about EU-Programmes and EU-Projects will be organized by the Mobile Researchers' Centre of the International Office of the TU Braunschweig. Details of the EU Corner will be posted at a later date.

Participation opportunities for scientists and researchers from universities, research facilities and research-based companies at the European Researchers’ Night Braunschweig 2015. The European Researchers’ Night in Braunschweig is looking for scientists from various disciplines and qualification levels, who have fun interacting with and communicating science to visitors.
If you would like to take part, simply follow the doodle-link below the respective formats and sign in for participation including your first name, last name and institution. Please give your complete contact details to ern@hausderwissenschaft.org for additional information.
You are welcome to take part in more than one format!

Beat the Brain
Visitors will be able to challenge scientists to compete in well-known board- and card games or quizzes in the Stadtbibliothek: who wins memory against a historian, a geographical quiz against a biologist or nine men's morris against a mathematician? Plenty of fun is guaranteed! The topic »gamification«/»the game taking place in science« will be presented in short lectures during the games. We are looking for scientists who are willing to compete with visitors between 3-5 pm and 5-7 pm.
The desired amount of time spent is two hours.

Picture Book Cinema
In the children section of the city library, you will be able to read from picture books of your childhood, for example your favourite fairy tales or comics. While doing this, the pictures will be projected onto a big screen, so that the visitors can see them. We are looking forward to the scientists who will bring foreign-language books and read them in the original language as well as the translations.
The format will take about 30 minutes.

Elevator Pitch
You will briefly explain your research to visitors while riding on an escalator. If the ride is too short or your field of research very interesting, you can go down the next escalator and keep explaining to the passers-by. The desired amount of time spent is one hour.
Special Feature: For those who are interested, we will organise a communication training which is done by a professional actor from the Staatstheater Braunschweig.

Living Library
As a part of the »living library«, you are positioned within »your« specialist department in the Stadtbibliothek, for example natural sciences, languages, history or geography. Visitors will be able to ask you about your topics instead of looking for answers in books. As a fun side-effect, you can break ranks and answer the visitors’ questions through all disciplines. The desired amount of time spent is one hour.

About the European Researchers’ Night
The European Researchers’ Night takes place annually on the last Friday of September. Braunschweig is taking part for the second year in a row and just like last year is the only German city hosting the event. Following Albert Einstein’s guiding principle »The important thing is not to stop questioning«, we want to highlight the meaning of research and science of the region with about 40 items on the agenda. You can find further information at www.ern-bs.de.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 633320 as part of Marie-Skłodowska-Curie-action. The focal point of this EU-programme is the promotion of careers in research within Europe. You can find more information on the EU-sites: http://ec.europa.eu/research/researchersnight/events_en.htm
Lower Saxony’s minister for science and culture, Dr. Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić, will be patron for the Braunschweig Researchers’ Night this year.
