Interview on the psychological and personal life consequences of the 'post-doc lifestyle'
The MCAA has been contacted by a German journalist, Janna Degener, who is planning an article on “Living out of a suitcase in a long-term period” that addresses young scientists and that will be published on www.euroscientist.com. This journalist is looking for experts from different European countries who might answer (at least one or some of) the following questions:
- What are the psychological and personal life consequences of the ‘post-doc lifestyle’ where scientists are expected to change country and jobs every three years on average to get a chance to progress their academic career?
- What are the pros and the cons of such a lifestyle and how does it affect scientists?
- What needs to be done in Europe in terms of policy (attached to grants and to career progressions at universities and research centres) to change the drawback of such career constraints, if at all...and avoid possible consequences on scientists not serving society as well as they could because they do not have the right living conditions to do so...?
The journalist needs replies by 13th March, and would be happy to agree on conducting a telephone interview.
Additionally, the journalist is looking for a post-doc and their spouse who just have uprooted for a new country and who would be willing to talk to about their experiences.
Anyone interested in talking to this journalist is invited to make contact directly with Janna Degener at info@jannadegener.de
