Meeting in Bristol Area
Hello dear MCAA fellows,
I am organizing a meeting for both current and potential MCAA members from the area around Bristol and would be delighted to see you there. Please, fill out this ultra-short form if you are interested so that we can start to plan: http://goo.gl/forms/KHLGdObiY7ZzV9P32
Also, please, help to spread the word to MC fellows, which are not in the MCAA yet., I am sure a face-to-face meeting is a great opportunity to show the potential and strengths of MCAA.
See you soon!
Yaroslav

Dear Silvia,
I am sorry that you're experiencing difficulties with your host institution. Here is my advice and replies to your questions:
1) I cannot be of any help on this one.
2) the salary (net or gross) results from the budget approved by each grant agreement. There is no standard salary.
3) As a fellow, you have no contact whatsoever with the EU. All correspondence and communications are between the EU and the host institution (this is written in several parts of guidelines, agreement etc). What you can and are free to do, though, is to contact the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions national contact point. Here is the UK one:
UK Research Office (UKRO)
Tel: +32 2 230 0318
Email: mariecurie-uk@bbsrc.ac.uk
I would also suggest that you constantly and thoroughly inform your scientist in charge about any problem you are experiencing, and possibly put your head of department in c/c. I had minor issues with HR at the beginning of my IEF at the LSE, and the Department of International History was great in providing advice and support.
Best wishes,
Angela
I really thank you for your kind answer and information! Silvia
Dear Silvia,
I am really sorry about the difficulties you are facing at the moment. Here are some amswers to your questions.
1) Yes. Mobility and family allowances are taxed in the UK.
2) Regarding the salary, the university will agree with you a fixed exchange rate (in pounds) for the duration of the contract. Your salary will be according to this fixed rate.
3) I am not sure about the first point of contact for an IF. But for me, being an ESR as part of an Innovative Training Network(ITN), the point of contact outside the university is the project coordinator and project administrator of the network.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Arnold Benjamin

Also -if relevant- you are free to use (or not) the pension scheme in the UK
This means you may still pay your benefits in your previous country - for exmaple I paid my pension in Greece so i continued my previous pension scheme as after finishing the MC project i am in Greece.
MC Fellowship is noe of the most amazing expereinces you may be lucky enough to have!
thanks for the clarification! Silvia
Dear Fellows,
many thanks for the eager participation in the survey and the kind responses. We attracted a high number of members and look forward to a great get-together this autumn. And since the majority of the participants is from Bristol we will make the mobility as smooth as possible and organize the meeting right here, in the city of Captain Blackbeard.
To ensure a high level of the event I am asking you to volunteer your time and expertise. The help will be much appreciated to secure a good venue at the campus of Bristol Uni or another location that will be convenient for people travelling from other cities.
Also your input on the discussion topics important for the MCAA and this event will be highly appreciated.
Awaiting your responses and see you soon in Bristol!

Hi, I am sorry I cannot attend a meeting in this period because I will move to Uk at the end of the year after my maternity leave. I am also writing you because I would like to share some practical information about financial issues:1) does anyone know if family and mobility allowances are taxed in Uk? 2) is there any member who can tell me which is the net salary of an IF (with or without family allowance) 3) Finally, in case one fellow may experience some problems with the financial department of own university (in my case is the University of Wolverhampton), is there any EU office where is possible to contact and receiving information? Thanking in advance and looking forward to hearing from you soon. Silvia Riva
