Meeting with Scientific Council ERC in Warsaw - 24.10.2019

On

Dear all, I'm forwarding an invitation to an interesting workshop. It is special in that it is not only the usual ERC grant holders that will be present there, but also the ERC council president Jean-Paul Bourguinon and our Vice-prime minister Jarosław Gowin themselves.

Meeting with Scientific Council ERC in Warsaw - 24.10.2019

The workshop will take place on 24 October 2019, in Warsaw.

Members of the Scientific Council, the ERC's governing body, will participate in several meetings with researchers in two cities. The overall aim of the whole event is to offer young Polish researchers an opportunity to learn more about ERC from the very source on the one hand, and to provide ERC Scientific Council members with a glimpse into situation and dilemmas faced by early career researchers in Poland.

During the workshop ERC experts - grant holders and members of Scientific Council ERC will share their knowledge and experiences regarding ERC grants, proposal writing, interviewing and evaluating.

The meeting is addressed to the researchers, who consider applying for the ERC grants and will be divided into two parts.

Part I: We would like to open this part with prof. Jean-Pierre Bourguignon’s address explaining the ERC’s offer followed by more detailed "ERC in a nutshell" speech. Next, we would like to move on to three simultaneous sessions. During each session, an ERC Scientific Council member and a Polish laureate of an ERC grant will share their perspective and their experiences on how to prepare a successful proposal. We would like the experts to focus on how to formulate and describe the ERC-worthy idea, and what constitutes and ERC level CV in a research area they represent.

Part II: During thist part invited experts as well as the audience will be invited to discuss on the attractiveness of the ERC grants for Polish scientists and its reasons. The meeting would be opened with a presentation on bibliometric data relating the achievements of young Polish scientists and about widening mechanisms in the ERC.
After this part a summary is planned to be prepared. The summary will be sent to the participants of the discussion to offer them an opportunity to introduce corrections or adjustments before formally submitting the document. The document will be later sent to the ERC and to the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Detailed agenda of the workshop is available on the PAS website and is subject to slight changes.
